McAlester is a city in and county seat of Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 18,363 at the 2010 census, a 3.4 percent increase from 17,783 at the 2000 census, making it the largest city in the former Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, followed by Durant. McAlester married Rebecca Burney, daughter of a full-blood Chickasaw family, which made him a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation.

We visited on a girls trip, it was fun to see all the variety of Italian items, I never knew there were that many options for olive oil! I also now know where the sausage I buy at my local grocery comes from!

This boutique winery is set in the historical building that once housed Newton's Jewelry Store ca. 1901. With its lovely curved glass windows, murals, and charming Wine Maker's Loft, the winery delivers a terrific atmosphere for a fun and relaxed family-friendly wine tasting. The winery also features an extensive selection of wine related gift items, home accents, and gourmet foods that pair perfectly with the award-winning "Wines from the Heartland." There is always something exciting happening at Whispering Meadows. Don't miss a chance to experience Whispering Meadows Vineyards & Winery, a true jewel of Southeastern Oklahoma.
Heading north from Dallas, TX we stopped for a break and a wine tasting. The winery had a large Trip Advisor sticker on the front door and really pushed the idea of customers writing a review.
I am not a fan of having to pay money to sample wine. If the wine is good we will make a purchase. Most of the wineries we have been to ask about wine likes and dislikes.
The sommelier at Whispering Meadows didn't really pay attention. We identified the wines we wanted to sample and she proceeded to provide samples out of order from the sample sheet.
We purchased wine and requested the wine be packaged in a box for the car ride home. After acknowledging yes to the box, the sommelier proceeded to package the wine in a bag.
Could have been a better experience.
