Onca Explorations

Whether it´s watching the amazing humpback whales, swimming with dolphins in the wild, kayaking among mangroves, helping baby sea turtles get to sea for the first time, or discovering ancient petroglyphs while hiking on a natural protected area, our adventures will fill you up with life changing experiences, long lasting memories and the satisfaction of giving back while taking part on genuine research and conservation initiatives throughout this important ecoregion. Our expeditions combine wildlife research, education and community development with sustainable tourism activities, promoting awareness about the value and threats to biodiversity, and generating direct benefits for the conservation and management of wildlife species and its habitat. WHY IS ONCA DIFFERENT? Apart from being a tourist operator, our company supports important research and conservation initiatives throughout the region by acting like a permanent platform for scientific research and monitoring of marine megafauna, particularly cetaceans -whales and dolphins-, sea turtles, sea birds, mantas and sharks. We also collaborate with local authorities for the attention of marine mammal strandings and great whale entanglement rescue, environmental awereness campaigns and education for conservation workshops at local schools and rural communities. We work tightly with the people and communities that own access to significant natural areas, helping them build and strength their capacities for the development and implementation of sustainable tourism products from which they can get direct benefits as an alternative to traditional economic activities (e.g. artisanal fisheries, agriculture, acuaculture, logging, etc.), improving their livelihoods and protecting their resources while inspiring a genuine sense of ownership for their natural heritage.

Playa Las Gaviotas

Beach located in the Golden Zone.

We walked the beach from the Malecon to the Marina (1 hour walk) every day during our recent trip. The beach wide and flat and the sea is safe with a shallow grade. Be careful to check the tide though as when the tide is in, it is more difficult to navigate some areas of the beach,
