This review is for the genealogical section of the Center.

If you are researching your family tree, with roots in this area (five counties) of Kentucky (plus two nearby counties in Ohio), the Gateway Museum Center's research library is a must on your visit list. While on our first trip, with only had a few hours to scope out the research area, we came away enthralled with the depth of data available and its well-catalogued organization -- family histories, deaths, maps, newspapers, private collections, even the Draper Manuscript Collection -- exactly what any genealogist, whether novice or skilled, is seeking.

The well-lit research section is on the upper floor (elevator available), offering plenty of tables and seating for spreading out notes and books, and providing row after row of shelves filled with indexed and bound compilations. The representative was most cordial and helpful, explaining the contents and layout of the library, obtaining off-the-shelf information, and making copies. Coffee and clean restrooms are on the lower level. There is a fee to come in, so arriving early in the day will help to get the most out of your visit; or consider an annual membership if your have several days available. Pay attention to the website for cost and days and hours it's open, and call ahead to double-check if you're traveling a distance.

We are anxious to return and continue untangling our roots. Highly recommend.

Warning GPS (Tom Tom) will steer you wrong. Look for the small sign on the right as you are coming down the hill. OR turn left instead of right at the bottom of the hill.

Quaint little place. One of the smaller distilleries on the tour. They are currently out of bourbon to buy, but you can get a taste. VERY small operation but the folks there are super friendly. WARNING. Very limited opportunities for tours. Check the website to make reservations.

My kids and I had driven down from Cincinnati for the day to explore Maysville, history etc. We found this little place just off the main road through trip advisor. Unfortunately, everything was closed. The visitors center offered a tour but the guide was already out. Very neat old buildings in the town. Would have love to taken a tour to hear the history behind them. Note: no resteraunts or anything to get a bite to eat etc in the town.

EAT Gallery

The EAT Gallery opened its doors during the 2006 Rosemary Clooney Festival and has become a destination store for Maysville residents and visitors alike. The gallery showcases unique hand crafted jewelry by artisans from around the world displayed alongside mineral specimens, natural stone carvings, framed butterflies, local art and a host of other treasures that celebrate the wonders of nature and earth. Longtime Maysville residents know the building used to be the home of Morgan’s diner. When Simon first visited Maysville in 1991, the first place he was taken was Morgan’s and the diner left an indelible impression. The iconic neon “EAT” sign on the front of the building was refurbished to help preserve the history of downtown and was the inspiration for the gallery’s name Exquisite Art Treasures.

This gallery (formerly housed a restaurant, thus the odd name) is in a quaint old building with a very animated and fun gentlemen staffing the establishment. Exotic and unusual artistic and jewelry pieces based on genuine minerals/gems throughout the building which has real character. Most fun shop in Maysville-don't miss it!

Cheyenne's Karaoke Bar & Grill

My spouse and I happened upon this little jewel of a place while "bar hopping" the streets of Maysville. This place was quite disturbing and depressing but all the while intriguing and fascinating. A hodgepodge of senior citizens and young punks mixed with bottom shelf liquor and canned beer being passed off as draft. I kid you not, this place is beautifully miserable. We came here on two different occasions just because the thought of this place wouldn't escape our minds. I love this place. If you have ever seen the movie The Cable Guy, when Chip is hosting the "karaoke jam" at Steven's apartment, those people are what you get here. Beautiful. I can't wait to get back to Maysville. I really miss this place.

Carmike Cinema 4

Reviewed By Roger R - Piketon, Ohio

Visited on a Saturday evening. This is a small theater with only 4 screens. Odd layout of lobby and bathrooms. When having to use the restroom during a movie, you are forced to bypass the roped off entrance and go down a long exit ramp, through the throngs of people lined up to get their tickets and popcorn and all the kids that are playing video games. Only to be rewarded with the strong stench of sewer smacking you in the face upon entering the restroom. Utterly disgusting.
The theater was not much better. I think we were seated in screen one. The odor of stale urine was strong. The screen was severely marked and scratched, to the point it distracted from the movie. The curtains were dusty and ripped and in areas were hanging down. The seats were hard and uncomfortable. The sound system, or the lack thereof, was terrible. During peak movie action there was pretty bad speaker distortion that took away from the movie. Very disappointing.
The staff was attentive enough. Not many smiles but accommodating. I actually felt bad for them for having to work in such conditions.
It is disappointing that Maysville doesn't have a better movie theater than this. They deserve better.
