Driving between Sudbury and Sault St Marie this was meant to be a simple stop to stretch our legs - what a lovely surprise to find it provided a good hike! The campground looked amazing too - we’ll spaced lots and so well maintained. The rapids, falls and well groomed walking trails were a delight. Very clean washrooms.

The purpose of the Massey Area Museum is to collect, preserve, research, and exhibit these objects which will serve to illustrate the settlement and development of the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers and Sagamok Anishnawbek, up to 1968, the year the museum was founded. We recognize that understanding our local heritage is necessary to gain a better appreciation of community, province, and nation. The Museum collects artifacts and documents that depict the area’s past in terms of the earliest native settlement, early exploration, and first white settlement, the part played by natural resources in our community (lumber, minerals, waterways), agriculture, education, religion, cultural achievement, manufacturing, trade and transportation, business and municipal political development. The Museum provides for the preservation of such material as well as it possibly can, and for its availability to all who wish to see it.
We stumbled upon this museum in Massey Ontario right on highway 17 when we on our way to the Chutes Provincial Park. It looks small from the outside but is packed with all kinds of interesting things in a total of 16 (not big) rooms. Both the ladies who were there were very knowledgeable and helpful. They have the rooms set up like a store, a school room, a parlour (with a gorgeous set of very old dishes), a logging room, a bedroom, a First Nations room, a railway waiting room and more and downstairs there is a neat farming display. A small gift ship and tourist information is also on site. Take the time to drop in and visit this very interesting glimpse of the past. It's well worth it.
Hike through the Lacloche Mountains and witness the beauty of the Boreal forest. Paddle a Canoe or Kayak on the pristine waters on LaCloche Lake. Make a fire and get ready for the adventure that has been waiting for you.
