Womanship

A Transforming Experience. Womanship, the renowned sailing school for and by women is celebrating its 25th year. More than 67,000 women, around the world, have joined us to become the sailors they want to be - the Womanship Way - enjoying hands-on, student centered and interactive learning on board an actual sailing cruise. Teaching in 16 locations in the US and off foreign shores, Womanship customizes courses for individual couples, families, mothers and daughters, teens, social and corporate groups.

For my 50th birthday I gifted myself a week aboard a Womanship. This was in 1991 so it is admittedly not real recent. We were a live-aboard 7 day cruising in the BVI and it was fantastic. Although I had sailed smaller boats for some years, my main task had been bailing, shifting sides of the boat, and occasionally putting up a whisker pole. Our two co-captains were grandmothers from New England - loved them both. I think we had 8 aboard. We def learned how to do all the skills, at least at a basic level, during our outing, from cooking in a galley kitchen to plotting our course, to mooring dockside without tearing up the ship. Thanks to a rough first day, I developed a seaman's gait almost immediately. Our travel included many ports of call and hours of learning and trading stories and songs with our mates.
