Schubert Wines

A world search, which also included France, Germany, North and South America as well as Australia for the ideal area with perfect conditions for viticulture, especially for Pinot Noir, brought Kai Schubert and Marion Deimling, graduates of the German Viticulture and Oenology University in Geisenheim to the Wairarapa, New Zealand. Schubert vineyards are closely planted and the unique climate produces low yields and internationally award winning wines with intense and complex character; predominantly exported to currently 25 countries.

Schubert was the last on our list for wine tasting and we were not disappointed. Coco was attentive and ensured we weren’t sitting around without a taster for too long. We ended up ordering a mixed case of four different wines which coco arranged to be couriered home. They arrived home before we did - how’s that for service! You don’t have to book for a tasting but it does fill up fast. From memory bookings are recommended for groups of six or more.

Great brews making for a very tasty flight of beers and you can’t go wrong with the Cheerios and cheese toast for old time favourites. The darker beers were surprising delicious as we’re both not usually that way inclined.

Another delightful visit to my favourite winery in this region. I sampled the new Rose and secured a couple of bottles to entertain my guests including the John Martin Pinot Noir. Rebekah the on duty manager was gracious. My dog Mojo had a whale of a time playing with Arthur. And as a Tesla destination my car juiced up as I relaxed in the porch. A wonderful relaxing afternoon.

Cambridge Road Vineyard & Cellar Door

Cambridge Road Vineyard is a small family farmed estate established in 1986 with the intention of making world class Pinot Noir and Syrah. We focus our time and energy on perfecting and beautifying our land and cultivating it according to natural biodynamic and eco-farming principles. We believe in minimal intervention winemaking, low yields, and healthy living wines. We seek purity of voice in all our wines with a respect for the taste of place. We source organic fruit from other vineyards withing the region and occasionally further afield to offer a wider selection of taste. We work with a small group of like minded growers to add depth to our winemaking portfolio.
