Sky Meadows State Park

Driving into this park is like going back in time. The Historic Area Buildings are located in a valley surrounded by mountains. Many hiking, horseback and biking trails at varying levels of difficulty to choose from. Very few cars in the parking lot. Embarrassed to admit that I'm not sure which trail we hiked, but believe we hiked up the Piedmont Overlook trail and back down Gap Run trail. Both trails are rated as moderate. The ascent was somewhat steep and easy to follow because they had mowed it. Benches located halfway up and near the top. We then walked through a section of forest which contained a ton of raspberry bushes laden with ripe fruit. yum! The trail markers were easy to follow. Really looking forward to returning and exploring more of the trails...

Housed in a mansion that dates from the 18th century, visiting The Winery at La Grange is the perfect opportunity for you to escape your busy day. The Winery is easily accessible from route 66 in Northern Virginia, as we are only 40 miles from Washington, D.C. Our sprawling 20 acres include more than 8 acres of vineyards and with plenty of space for picnics, parties, weddings, or simply a romantic getaway for two.

The Winery at La Grange just inside of Haymarket, VA is a great Saturday or Sunday afternoon visit.

Plenty of shade, live music, food, area for kids to play, just an all in all beautiful relaxing property.

Our tasting rep this past Sunday was Bria. Bria was great! Very helpful and thorough on explaining all the wines.

The property itself is a beautiful 19th century residence/estate. It's impressive just to walk the property and feel the history. All the better to have a glass of wine in hand and good food too.

This is our third or fourth visit to La Grange. We'll be back for sure!

Nothing brings out divisiveness like kids. Pearmund just changed their family friendly policy on weekends. No kids allowed. Oh and no coolers too. So far, dogs are still okay. The thing I always loved about Virginia wineries and Pearmund is that they are family friendly. It's an opportunity to spend an afternoon out in the Virginia countryside sharing a bottle of wine, having a picnic, and relaxing. We live in a very high stress environment in NoVa. Everyone should drink responsibly, families in tow or not. Pearmund was perfect for families with a creek, beehives, a swing, cornhole, and even a box filled with balls and stuff. Not sure how enforceable the cooler thing will be but they want you to buy their meats and cheeses as well as food from the occasional food truck. Change is always difficult and this decision will be cheered or not. People will judge each other and think themselves smarter, cleverer, and/or a better parent. I'm sure Pearmund weighed their decision and based it on their bottom line. We won't be going back and cancelled our club membership. They were unfazed so I'm sure they are confident in their decision. On a side note Wegman's sells their wine cheaper at least until they note it in this review.

Our first visit to this winery. We were greeted by a very enthusiastic young lady who gave a brief overview of the winer ownership and wine production. During the winter months. (January-February-March), the winery offers a meat or vegetarian lasagna lunch for $15 per person. This is served with bottomless garlic bread. The lasagna was fantastic and was prepared by Eric Stamer Catering in Staunton, VA. Eric was once the chef for the Little Inn at Washington. The lasagna was one of the best I have eaten. We tasted 4 of their wines and had a glass of our choice of one of the four with our lunch. The view is a bit barren because of the season but I think it would be great in the spring and summer. By the looks of the wood, they have done a good amount of expansion both inside and outside the venue. There is a narrow, one lane road to get to the winery so be alert. There are limited areas to pull-off to let another vehicle pass. Also, once you reached the winery there was limited parking on the upper level near the entrance but I understand there is parking down below which requires a hike up to the entrance. Only a few days left to have their delicious lunch. They also have a selection of other foods such as crackers, cheese, etc. You may also bring your own food if you choose. There is a store on the premises where you can purchase coasters, t-shirts, logo glasses and, of course, their wines by the bottle.

We went for the 4th of July celebration and it was the best!!! There were activities set up for children, helicopter demonstrations and fly overs which were very exciting. I really enjoyed the polo exhibition, which this area is known for and after seeing the exhibit plan on coming back to maybe watch a match or more as it was exciting. The fireworks went on for about 40 minutes and I never was sure when the finale was as the whole fireworks show seemed like a finale and was non stop. So good!! And they play patriotic music during the show which makes it better. I saw families with picnics and couples all just enjoying the afternoon. Can't wait til next year but I've already checked out their events calendar and have seen a couple of events besides polo that I'm marking my calendar for!! Exciting to have this wonderful place without having to go to DC.

Hugh and Lori were exceptional hosts for our ladies day out birthday celebration! They provided an overview of what we should expect from the class, and Hugh stayed with us the entire time to answer questions and provide assistance. We had a group of five for a fused glass class, where we created a variety of snowflake or winter tree themed plates. We took our own snacks and wine to celebrate our friend's birthday, and had a nice time hanging out and learning something new! I would highly recommend for an afternoon of fun and creativity!

Visited end of January on a rainy Sunday. Their vines are young so they do use grapes from other VA growers. Chardonnay very good as are most of their other wines. They are pricey with a wine tasting costing $14! Wine members get free tasting. Wines are expensive too. They offer food plates and sit down tastings which is a refreshing change.

Slater Run Vineyard is offering tasting of there wines here. The building is adorable. My pourer, Adale, was very knowledgeable and personable. She knew all about the wines, the winemaker and the history of the family. The wines were different than many Virginia wines. They use European processes. I enjoyed several of them.
It was a good visit.

Recently visited for the first time after seeing for many years while traveling on Route 66. We should have stayed away. Grossly overpriced ($34.00 for a bottle of wine, almost $35.00 for a 64 oz growler fill of beer. Yes, they have beer too.) These prices are absurd. We could have purchased wine just as good at a local grocery store for a 1/7 of the price. Skipped on the pricey beer.

People bring their dogs. There is chaos of people and dogs everywhere. Almost tripped on a leash more than once as people just don't pay attention, especially while drinking, and allow their dog to venture.

Outside seating areas with individual fire pits. Unfortunately, the wood provided is wet and apparently not seasoned. What does this mean? Get more smoke instead of fire. In a short time we all stunk of wood smoke. They need more trashcans outside.

Our first and last visit.
