Woodenshoefactory on the isle land of Marken
We quite enjoyed the demonstration of how clogs are made. The young man who did the presentation was quite energetic and clearly enjoys his work and is very proud of it. The little store inside was also neat and offered a few good photo spots with the big clog outside. Worth a look if in the area.

The artwork (The Wave) is also a sofa. To muse, to meet and to remember the power of water. ‘Collaboration’, ‘solidarity’ and ‘victory’ together with the sad side of the disaster; ‘the cry’, ‘despair’ but also ‘the helping hand’ are coming together in The Wave. This memorial has the shape of a boat, and thus symbolically incorporated the significance of Noah’s Ark.

At the harbour of Marken you will find a ‘small museum house’. It’s designed as a old original House in Marken. Here you can see the period furniture and decor and you can see how the people from Marken lived in the early days. This tiny house is exactly furnished as how a Marken fishing family lived there until about 1932. The walls of the house are covered with colorful signs and prints.

The lighthouse ‘Paard van Marken’ (English: Horse of Marken) was built in 1839 by J. Valk. A primitive tower had been on the location since the early 18th century; the current lighthouse is declared a national monument in 1970. The tower 16 meters tall and has a light range of 16,7 Km. Every night it’s light shines over the IJsselmeer.
We enjoyed the walk to reach the lighthouse. The horses chests and green yards it was like we are living there and many locals were so friendly. It’s challenge with 3 yrs old ;) but managed and made it
