What to do and see in Marine Parade, Singapore: The Best Gift & Specialty Shops

January 6, 2022 Kiesha Cripe

The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

The class took place at the instructor’s workshop, so the atmosphere was quite warm and comfortable, and the organisation of the class was very professional. We prepped the perfumes together as a team and also on our own. Overall, I had a great time and would definitely recommend this class to anyone!

Parkway Parade

It was right across Grand Mercure Roxy where we were checked in. Surprisingly, it had a good mix of the stores I like — Smiggle, Typo, Pandora, Uniqlo. The mall also had a big Food Republic with a Wee Nam Kee in it. Also loved the fact that it also had a Hokkaido stall. The Cold Storage store also had a wide array of supermarket goods. This is where I discovered the best tasting salted egg fish skin— The Golden Duck!

Rumah Bebe

Rumah Bebe is a quaint venue that strives for authenticity – from the Peranakan potpourri to the music, colourful designs, ornate doors and architecture of the house. To experience a rare culture that’s slowly being forgotten and discarded, a visit to Rumah Bebe is a must.

A great place to learn the art of making beaded Peranakan shoes called Kasut Manek. Bebe Seet also stocks books on Peranakan culture. Many thanks to Bebe Seet for introducing the workshops and Richard with whom I had a long chat about our culture. Not only is Rumah Bebe a place to find beaded shoes and Peranakan Sarong Kebaya, the boutique also sells unique Peranakan kueh (sweets and cakes) not found anywhere else.
