Some say it’s different, but residents of Marin County like their home that way. We’re betting you will too! Nestled between San Francisco and the Napa Valley, Marin County includes the cities of Tiburon, San Anselmo, San Rafael and Corte Madera.
Activities in Marin County include the highly anticipated Concours d’Elegance, a festival of pre-1978 vehicles and British Sports Cars. Held at the Marin County Fairgrounds in May, the event features a wine-tasting, fine food and “The Drive,” a parade of classic cars winding their way through the scenic back roads of Marin and neighboring Sonoma Counties ending with a lunch reception in San Rafael. In July, be sure to head to the Marin County Fair and in August hit the San Rafael Food and Wine Festival. Treat yourself to some of the world-renowned local wine and watch the sun go down over the hills.
Of course, there’s no shortage of natural beauty in Marin County. Beach lovers will enjoy Stinson Beach or Point Reyes National Seashore where wildlife abounds. Here you just might spot some Elephant Seals or Tule Elk among the rugged terrain or, from Point Reyes Lighthouse, catch a glimpse of a pod of whales. Go butterfly or bird watching and enjoy the many natural wonders of California’s Northern Coast.
For some, no vacation would be complete without a round of golf. If you’re a golf aficionado, Marin County will not disappoint you. The area boasts several public and private courses in a variety of settings, including San Geronimo Golf Course. Situated on 150 acres of stunning landscape, this is a challenging course designed to test your game! Or, try the StoneTree Golf Club, a daily fee, 18-hole championship course. If hiking is more your style, check out Angel Island State Park. Accessible only by ferry, Angel Island offers spectacular views of most of the Bay Area, including San Francisco. Fishing more your style? Try McNear’s Beach Pier in San Rafael.

Heidrun Meadery produces brut dry, naturally sparkling, single-varietal mead (wine made from fermented honey) using the traditional French Methode Champenoise. Along with world-class meadmaking, we have a beekeeping operation and a bee forage cultivation program. Our tasting room is open 7 days a week. You are welcome to drop in for a tasting ($20-$25), or reserve a spot on one of our Tours that are offered on the weekends ($25). Enjoy a glass or bottle of mead on our patio with a picnic. Come visit a place like no other!
I convinced my husband, who doesn't like mead, to take a tasting with me to Heidrun during our getaway to Point Reyes National Seashore. Our pourer, Nikki, was exceptional well informed about the products and gave us great information about each type of mead that we tried. My husband actually liked several! And I LOVED three of the five we tried--went home with a bottle of the Sage Blossom mead--and will probably order more. Also--we had to make a reservation for the tasting--and the whole experience felt very Covid-safe.

On August 1st, the Madrigal Family Winery of Napa Valley, a Bacchus Capital portfolio company, opened its new tasting room at 819 Bridgeway in the heart of Sausalito. Since the 1930's, three generations of the Madrigal family have been farming some of Napa's finest vineyards and have always been known for their old-world hospitality; adding a second tasting room is a natural evolution of the family's history. The new Madrigal Winery tasting room is the first and only Sausalito tasting room to be opened by a "brick and mortar" Napa Valley winery.
After a long day of walking and sight seeing, we found this small and cozy tasting room. I’ve long been a fan of Madrigal wine so I was so happy to be able to stop and enjoy some of the wine with a cheese plate. The staff is very welcoming and helpful and the wine was worth the wait. I ordered a “mystery” case to be sent home to Georgia. Twice the wine for the price because you let them select the it. Since I love all of the Madrigal wines, I went for it. Perfect end to the day, sitting outside sipping on a glass of Cabernet. ????
