Colorful gardens and park in Marietta. Perfect for picnic lunches in the summer.
The first time I visited Marietta Square was in October 2017 and it was just great! Lots of nice shops and funky restaurants. My wife and I visited again last week (March 2018) and, well, we were surprised. First, most places don't open until 10am or later. Second, they seem to have ripped out a lot of trees and are remodelling the side walk along one whole side of the square - its a big building site. Also we noticed that a few of the shops that were there last year have closed down and are empty. So, all in all, a bit disappointing to what it was. Hopefully by Summer 2018 it will look a lot better - but in March 2018 it was, like, eh... meh.

Site of a crucial Civil War battle offers a modern visitor center and a number of hiking trails on its grounds.
We've taken many foreign guests to the mountain and every single one was impressed by the visitor center. The way civil war history is displayed is very succinct and absolutely superb. The movie is a must.
Well, of course the mountain was waiting patiently in the mean time. Let me put it this way, it's not wheelchair friendly. The walk is absolutely stunning, but strenuous. Flip flops won't do it. If you payed attention at the visitor center you'd be amazed at how the confederates were able to drag their canons all the way up to the top of the mountain. I hope they had what you had, ample water.
The top of the mountain offers a scenic panorama of the surrounding area. If you're up to it, you can climb further up to the canons and the next hill.
You can either go down the same path, or take the paved road down.
Just climbing the mountain taking the dirt path makes the view so much more rewarding.
Oh, by the way, parking is a problem, at least at the location itself, so you'll see people parked along side the road.

Several paths, some shared with bicycles. Heavily wooded with varying terrain, from relatively steep to flat. Lots of tree roots and eroded areas, so watch where you walk. A great area to hike on windy or especially sunny days because the trees will moderate both.

The Marietta Museum of History is one of Marietta's unique treasures. The museum is located in the Historic Kennesaw House, a structure built in 1845. Located just steps off the Marietta Square, the museum is a perfect afternoon activity for visitors to take in along with local lunch and shopping.
The museum is on the second floor of the historic Kennesaw House. In 1845 it was a cotton warehouse. It became the Fletcher House Hotel in 1855. During the Civil War it was used as a hospital and morgue.
It's a very well organized, wonderful museum covering the history of Marietta and Cobb County. I found the museum to have everything you expect from a history museum. My favorite parts were the displays showing everyday life but my husband liked the Civil War parts the best and had to stop to read everything.

If you understand the historic appeal of visiting cemeteries, then you don't want to miss this one. So many o the confederate dead were brought here from battle throughout north Georgia and Tennessee. There are also many important people and pioneers of this county and city, as well as people who had amazing or tragic stories. Like Mary Phagan, of the infamous Leo Frank lynching story. As in most cemetery visits, bring your smart phone and Google your way into the lives of so many interesting people.

We've been going to the Strand for several years. It's a quaint show-house that offers quality shows and concerts. It's very convenient on the Marietta Square. Based on it's location there are several restaurants/cafes near by. The cost of the shows is very reasonable. If you have the opportunity don't miss the rooftop lounge.

It's currently being renovated. I've been there when this building was open and today when it was moved to the history center next door. The staff is wonderful. And the brochures give you many great ideas for things to do in the area. Nice bathroom stop too.

Just outside Atlanta, this amusement park offers 40 rides on 40 acres and is great for the whole family.
We love coming here with our four year old who has plenty of space to run around. Lots of great mini water slides and a nice wave pool...as well as night time movies. However, the way to do this...because it is so expensive...is to get in on the flash pass sale, which also covers you for next season. It runs Labor Day weekend and ends up being $50 a person per season that includes parking.

The cemetery was established in 1866 and holds over 10,000 union dead. As we walked around reading the names on the headstones I was amazed at how quiet it was even though it's in the middle of downtown. The nameless headstones are the ones that got to me the most. If you decide to go there be sure to just stand at the top of the hill and look down over the rolling hills and just take it all in.

This is a small museum with collectibles and memorabilia of all things related to Margret Mitchell, her book and of course the movie Gone with the Wind. Lots of news paper clippings, paintings movie posters and much more. Enjoyed it and was close to where I lived and always wanted to go to it.
