Manistique, formerly Monistique, is the only incorporated city in and the county seat of Schoolcraft County of the U.S. state of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 3,097. The city lies on the north shore of Lake Michigan, adjacent the southwest corner of Manistique Township. Manistique was founded where the Manistique River flows into Lake Michigan, forming a kind of natural harbor, which has since been improved with breakwaters, dredging, and a lighthouse. The city takes its name from the Manistique River. The economy also depends heavily on tourism.

Palms Book State Park’s Kitch-iti-kipi is Michigan’s largest spring. Kitch-iti-kipi is an Ojibwa word said to have many meanings, including The Great Water, The Blue Sky I See, and The Roaring Bubbling Spring. Kitch-iti-kipi is 200’ in diameter, 42′ deep and delivers 16,000 gallons of crystal clear water per minute. The water stays at 45 degrees year round. You can ride the observation raft for a beautiful view across the spring. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the floating dock was closed for a long time but, since people kept breaking the locks, it was opened very recently. Looking down the center of the raft, you can see the bubbling spring doing its work. Large trout seemed to be everywhere, but no fishing is allowed. A must see!!! #puremichigan #summer2020 #nofilter

I love love love this shop. It is a little bit of heaven here on earth. Located in downtown Manistique, it is a hidden gem. When you walk into this shop, you realize you have found the best kept secret in the Upper Peninsula. It is jam packed with art/candles/furniture/candies/knick-knacks/jewelry/garden ornaments.....I could go on and on. The displays make you want to buy everything. It is classy and is a locally kept secret. When you receive something from the Mustard Seed....you know you are getting something unique and is a treasure. Don't miss this!

Waited to book a lakeside spot and it was just lovely. Manistique is a cute little town, with a good supermarket. Took a day trip to Munising. Great trip. Was there Mon-Thurs in mid-August and it was quite crowded. Typical experience with children who run through your campsite, etc. but really a great trip!!
