The Dark Room is a performance venue for Manawatu audiences and beyond. It provides a platform for emerging and established artists to experiment, develop and showcase their work in theatre, music, comedy, or improv. The Dark Room is also home to The Basement Company, Centrepoint Theatre's youth development programme, and SpontaneoUS, the theatre's improv troupe.

The Royal Wanganui Opera House is a landmark cultural icon, and the last remaining working Victorian theatre in the southern hemisphere, elegantly standing at over 115 years old. The theatre was officially opened on the 9th of February 1900. In 1989 a Friends of the Opera House steering committee was established, and a membership drive for Friends of the Opera House volunteers began. The theatre received a Historic Places Trust award in 1996, gaining category one historical grading. The theatre seats 830 patrons and is the perfect venue for many local, national and international events. A Box Office is conveniently located to the left of the Theatre for ease of ticket sales, and is open Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm.
