The church largely consists of the nave of what was once a great medieval abbey (definitely what most would people would consider cathedralesque in scale. Set in a lovely Cotswolds' town the abbey is of interest for its own sake as it retains a great sense of presence with (the Romanesque (Norman) entry porch being particularly impressive) and for some of the treasures it contains notably the mediaeval Malmesbury Bible (a vast 4 volume work) which is normally on display. When I visited there was an interesting display of contemporary illuminated art works which added to the interest. The building has its own restaurant but there are numerous (and generally good) catering outlets in the surrounding town. A fascinating place the abbey is well worth a visit by anyone interested in the history of the church in the UK

We are a well established bar and restaurant in the green and pleasant surroundings of the Wiltshire and Cotswolds Hills. As well as food and drink, we can also offer a large function room, beer garden with play area, family room on the weekends, boules piste, skittle alley and plenty of parking. We look forward to seeing

What struck me immediately was the cheery and genuine welcome from one of the volunteers. Next, it was obvious that people of all ages enjoy visiting and that all age groups are catered for. Pull-out drawers contain model reconstructions, or Anglo-Saxon clothes for dressing up. There are push button maps to show where each historic feature is located in the town. From Iron Age millstones to World War 2, everything was explained in an accessible way, from guessing games to interesting facts. I likes that nothing was dumbed down. Full marks for making such good use of limited space and presenting history with love - and for free!

Historic building close to the abbey and market town centre. A lovely place to sit and watch the world go by - and a visit to the nearby Whole Hog pub is a bonus.

The WOMAD festival (World of Music Arts and Dance) is a World music festival that takes place every year on the last week of July. This festival is very family friendly and as such all children under the age of 13 can attend for free. There is also an Arboretum (a well-being spa) that provides a Jacuzzi, sauna and various treatments available.
