Yet another lovely old town on Lake Garda, Malcesine is an elegant resort at the base of Castello Scaligero. Enjoy a leisurely day of shopping in town (making sure to stop at an outdoor café with a lake view), or if you’re getting restless, take a cable car to Monte Baldo for skiing in winter or challenging hiking in summer.

Besides being just a beautiful location there are lots of things to do here at the base of Monte Baldo and on the shore of Lake Garda. Try some wind surfing, hiking, mountain biking, ski diving off Monte Baldo, scuba diving, and there are schools for these sports. Shoppers, the day for the town market is Saturday. If you like a little culture there are musical evenings held near the Scaliger Castle in Malcesine. Good restaurants are never far away. Boats run on a daily schedule to take visitors to your choice of towns around Lake Garda. Local shops are ready to share local products like olive oil, olive wood, wines and lemon products not to mention leather goods. There is also a tourist bus available daily to drive you to the towns along the lake. Stay as busy as you like or get your book and find a quiet spot. You will start to relax the minute you arrive.

A pleasant easy walk from Malcesine centre passing bars, restaurants & beach areas. Good at any time of day, although during early mornings the views of the hills & mountains at the north end of Lake Garda can be of special clarity.

You can visit the Captains Palace and see the fresco and gardens by the lake for free during the day. We went to a classical morning concert which was performed by a flautist and pianist. This was held upstairs in a beautiful room with views over the lake. Drinks (prosecco or non-alcoholic) and snacks were included in the ticket price. A holiday highlight.
