Malahide Castle & Gardens is a beautiful & historic medievel castle, with a facinating story dating back to the 12th Century. Located on the beautiful north coast of Dublin City Malahide Castle was once owned by the Talbot Family for nearly 800 years and is one of the longest owned castles by one family in the country. Set on 250 acres of stunning parkland, Malahide Castle is also home to one of Ireland’s four botanical walled gardens with 5000 species of plants inculding a wonderful collection from many Southern Hemisphere countries. Guided tours of the castle take place daily from 9.30am all year round. Our friendly and informative guides bring to life the story of the Talbot family during the 45 minute tour through the main reception rooms & bedrooms. The modern & bright visitor centre is home to the garden exhibition area and gives access to the Talbot Botanical Walled Garden. Avoca Cafe & retail is located in the visitor centre and is a treasure trove of wonderful gifts.
We took the Toots train from the grand hotel which was a fun experience for everyone to start with. Took the kids to the well laid out kids playground while some of the adults had coffee and huge scones in the very good Avoca restaurant Took the 12-30 tour of the castle which was a 45 minute very informative tour of the castle We then followed the fairy trail which the kids loved and a wander round the gardens probably didn’t take in everything so much to do. Avoca shop is excellent as well.

Visited Malahide Beach today after our visit to Malahide Castle. It is a lovely beach with a large car park as well as lots of on street parking. There are lifeguards there during the summer months. Public toilets near the car park too. The ice cream van is in the car park too, so the children are well happy. It’s a great spot on a nice day.

Everyone who works at Malahide Marina is helpful and friendly. The facilities are quite good. The marina is only a short walk from the heart of the town with a variety of pubs and restaurants to choose from. It is also on the DART line, so you can reach Dublin quite easily.
