17,000 Years of Continuous Human Habitation! Welcome to Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park. This park is a memorial to the relationship between people and natural resources. Native Americans first came here during the Paleo-Indian period to hunt Ice Age mammals. Several cultures occupied this land for thousands of years, each creating their own history here. The Mississippian culture arrived here around 900CE and constructed mounds for the elite members of their society. Today the mounds remain for all to see and explore.
This park does an excellent job of both meeting your expectations (learning about Native Americans and their traditions in a direct way) and expanding your awareness in unexpected ways. The displays of artifacts from this largest archaeological site in the U.S.A. are very engaging and impressive. The Earth Lodge is the most moving site on the grounds. Walking around the mounds is also very informative with the outdoor text panels.

WE enjoy visiting the Shoppes at River Crossing because we are able to leisurely stroll in and out of our favorite shops. One of my favorite is this Barnes and Nobel. I love to browse the aisles and look for bargains!!! I can usually be found in the history section!!! After 3-4 hours of walking and shopping, there is BONEFISH!!!!!! What a treat all in one location!!!!!!!

We went out to the Macon Centreplex a few days before Christmas to take in a hockey match (a first for all 3 of us) and we were blown away by the experience! Managing the tickets, getting parked and locating our seats was incredibly easy. The staff at the Centreplex, to a person, was top-notch! Every employee that we encountered was friendly, professional and accommodating. And, Santa Clause came a couple of days early for my 8-year old... to senior staff member in the blazer and with the salt-n-pepper ponytail that brought her that game-played puck: thank you, again, sir! Your kindness made a great event and exceptional one! I wish I had your name but I have a feeling that you are a fixture in the arena and that anybody who's ever been there knows exactly who I mean!! I cannot speak to how the Centreplex is for other events, but, for the Mayhem hockey matches: world-class!!

We arrived to a new visitor center on a windy January Saturday. The 2 volunteers were delightful and so informative. 1 gave us a personal tour of the grounds and block house that was remade by the WPA in the 1930's. Very interesting film on the Macon area too, in the visitor center. Go visit the Hay House and Cannonball House in town, too!
