Touching Belgium on its west and just a few miles from Germany to the east, Maastricht is the capital of Holland’s southernmost region, Limburg. A town rich in history and culture, Maastricht boasts two wonderful town squares: Vrijthof, with Sint-Servaas Church, Sint-Jan's Cathedral and many bars, cafes and restaurants; and Markt, home to the town hall and, on Wednesday and Friday mornings, a fantastic vendor market. The city’s Vestigingswerken, or old town fortifications, are another big draw.

Our guide, Willy, was a great source of information on the one hour + tour of the fort and it’s underground tunnels. It was really interesting to learn about the fort and its role in Maastricht’s history over the years. Great views over the city and surroundings.

I did the Fort Sint Pieter tour with Simone (only two of us on that tour, very personalized!) and then the North Caves tour with Matt (who also took us to the Nazi vault. Both tours were great and the guides really deliver the history in a fun way. The thought that went into the development of the Fort was brilliant, making it practically impossible to invade. The caves were also a wonder with the intricate system, the many uses, and the massive volume of ground that was moved to create that system. Loved every second of these two tours!

Do not miss this book store, it will be an experience you will never have again. The cafe at the back of the store is a perfect place to pause your day and take in the wonderful tea, coffee and treats. I can’t even explain the feeling you get when you enter this ancient church which has been restored to be a fascinating book store with thousands of books, music, magazines and loads of wonderful trinkets. A must see! Side effect is, you end up in the heart of Masstricht, a world heritage site, you won’t regret this visit.

This "ancient" water wheel in Maastricht is still working away grinding grains daily for the bakery it flanks. Maastricht, in the old city, is such an awesome and well maintained area. Highly recommend a visit you will not be disappointed.

Lumière is the place where you can catch up with the latest international art house films, lose yourself in an engrossing documentary, and finally get the chance to see that enduring film classic. We are screening up to 300 art house-films a year from around the world, with the programme equally divided between smaller independent films and slightly more mainstream fare. With an emphasis on film authors, indie-favourites and film festival hits, we are catering to a dedicated audience of cinephiles and casual filmgoers alike. In addition to the latest art house releases, we regularly play host to special presentations of the work of promising new filmtalent, cinema-related lectures, showcases of regional filmmakers, open air screenings, thematic programs in partnerships with national film festivals and much more.
This is a killer movie theatre, showing 3 to 4 films at this location. Comfortable seats and great quality film projection, this is a 5 star theatre. BUT that is not all there is a excellent restaurant that is part of this movie complex and it is in a amazing retro warehouse atmosphere, good food. cold wine and beer and friendly staff.

We had drinks here on 2 occasions. The 1st was a Sunday night when we were just passing through, We stood outside for about an hour. Located on the edge of the square where the Christmas market was made it a great people watching place. We then went back on Monday night after a meal out. We got there about 11 and had an amazing time. It is only a small bar but with great staff, atmosphere and music, We drank, sang and danced until 0130 and it was fabulous. A lot of UK music mixed in with some Euro pop made for a great night out. A MUST VISIT
