Lyme Regis /ˌlaɪmˈriːdʒɪs/ is a town in West Dorset, England, 25 miles (40 km) west of Dorchester and 25 miles (40 km) east of Exeter. It lies at Lyme Bay on the English Channel coast at the Dorset–Devon border. It is nicknamed "The Pearl of Dorset". It is noted for fossils found in cliffs and beaches that are part of the Heritage Coast—known commercially as the Jurassic Coast—a World Heritage Site. The harbour wall known as "The Cobb" appears in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion, in the John Fowles novel The French Lieutenant's Woman, and in the 1981 film of the same name, which was partly shot in Lyme Regis. Its one-time mayor and MP was Admiral Sir George Somers, who founded the English colonial settlement of the Somers Isles, now known as Bermuda. Lyme Regis is twinned with St George's, Bermuda. In July 2015 Lyme Regis also became "tripled" with Jamestown, Virginia, as the Historic Atlantic Triangle of Lyme, St George's and Jamestown. The 2011 Census gave the parish and electoral ward a population of 3,671.

One hour mackerel fishing trips leave Lyme Regis harbour all day long.Adults £15 Children £10.Come and catch your supper whilst cruising along the Jurassic Coast. Also available are three hour deep sea fishing trips from 8.30 to 11.30am,£45 for adults and £30 for children including rod and bait. People absolutely love these trips and its quite possible to have your catch cooked for you on your return to the harbour. Herbies will cook your catch for you , £6 your fish and their chips. The fish is cooked on the griddle and because its so fresh tastes delicious, Herbies is four minutes walk from the boat. Please make sure you ask the skipper well before the end of the trip that you would like your fish cooked for you and he will prepare it and remove all the bones. Sound like a good idea?

Just had to let people know how much we enjoyed the Sunday session last week. This open mic event takes place roughly once a month to showcase local musicians who just turn up and play. We had 3 hours of enjoyment being entertained by a wide variety of acts, all of which we enjoyed. The young lady who played the cello deserves a special mention as she was particularly good and has a brilliant voice as well as being a great musician. Thanks also to the nice lady behind the bar. No to be missed if you're in town.

A great activity for all ages and abilities. 9 hole meadow style course totalling 550 metres. Set in 5 acres overlooking the beautiful West Dorset countryside. Just up the road from Lyme Regis and easy to find just off of the A35 (Charmouth bypass). A family run business with a lovely relaxed environment.
I am so glad we managed to fit this in on our last day in Dorset - we really had a fab time, and the kids loved it (girl and boy, 4yrs + 6yrs)! Gaz was great too - very friendly, and we will be sure to be back! NB - it's also very 'covid secure' with sanitised footballs, and naturally easy for social distancing. Thanks so much!

A traditional museum with more than 10000 specimens on permanent display.
We went here the day before heading to the beach fossil hunting. The collection is huge and you could spend days looking at the displays, we had a very excited 7 year old determined to see what was next so we didn't spend as much time as we would have liked. Do remember its a private collection and not the natural history museum so you could walk round it in a 5 - 10 minutes. Having said that there are literally thousands or tens of thousands of individual exhibits and being a private collection the owners are incredibly passionate and knowledgeable with every single piece each having a back story. I would have loved to have gone without covid and spent a lot more time learning. Even with COVID the owner made us feel really welcome, spent time chatting and even spent a lot of time giving us advice on where to head to the following day. The building is Mary Anning's old church converted into a Dino Museum so you really get a great atmosphere and there are wow's everywhere you look well worth the money.
