Lyme Regis /ˌlaɪmˈriːdʒɪs/ is a town in West Dorset, England, 25 miles (40 km) west of Dorchester and 25 miles (40 km) east of Exeter. It lies at Lyme Bay on the English Channel coast at the Dorset–Devon border. It is nicknamed "The Pearl of Dorset". It is noted for fossils found in cliffs and beaches that are part of the Heritage Coast—known commercially as the Jurassic Coast—a World Heritage Site. The harbour wall known as "The Cobb" appears in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion, in the John Fowles novel The French Lieutenant's Woman, and in the 1981 film of the same name, which was partly shot in Lyme Regis. Its one-time mayor and MP was Admiral Sir George Somers, who founded the English colonial settlement of the Somers Isles, now known as Bermuda. Lyme Regis is twinned with St George's, Bermuda. In July 2015 Lyme Regis also became "tripled" with Jamestown, Virginia, as the Historic Atlantic Triangle of Lyme, St George's and Jamestown. The 2011 Census gave the parish and electoral ward a population of 3,671.

The fish is cooked on the griddle and because its so fresh tastes delicious, Herbies is four minutes walk from the boat. Please make sure you ask the skipper well before the end of the trip that you would like your fish cooked for you and he will prepare it and remove all the bones. Sound like a good idea?

Surprisingly very good all round. Firstly great people watching as golfers finish on the 18th hole, non members made very welcome to the bar and restaurant which has easy parking which is a bonus in Lyme. The bay is walkable from the course. The food is really good with respected local chief, the new star of the show is the steward who provides that exceptional touch you might get at places like the Ritz, he notices everything and is so polite. Very refreshing and much improved.

We parked on a hill out of town fairly cheaply. Then walked down to the beach and right along the promenade to the lifeboat station and Cobb beach. It is a lovely place, as is the town with some great shops and cafes, also some narrow little roads away from main street that have some interesting things to see including a brewery shop and bakers with cafe.
