German Salt Museum

Reviewed By Bastianmis - Viborg, Denmark

we went here to learn more about the production of salt In Luneburg. We had the opportunity to go with a German guide or do a audio guided tour with English speaking guide. We choose the last, as our German is not to good. It was very interesting to heat and see all the things in the museum. It was made very interesting. we spent a couple of hours there, and felt well intertained and a little wiser when we left. Will deffinetly recommend to visit this place.

Nice view from the top. It is also nice to make photos from the bridge overlooking the tower. A must visit if you're in Lüneburg.

Historisches Lueneburger Rathaus

Reviewed By JMofWappenham - Towcester, United Kingdom

Huge thanks to our guide who told us so much about this Renaissance town hall. Built on the profits of a salt monopoly in the 14th to 16th century, the Rathaus has some magnificent rooms behind a Baroque facade popped on in a later era. Superb wood carvings, paintings and trompe l'oeil tiled floors. And a very long hall where the better part of the county used to dance the night away. Having its piano tuned ready for a concert when we visited. There were just 8 of us on the tour for which you just turn up and pay a small sum on the day.

We are in luck to live in Lüneburg so we go every year in August for a walk through. We try to always visit a different area and see other places in the “Heide”. It is worth it every time! If you love walks ( short or long), wild nature and diversity you are in the right place. Please be aware that this is a natural reservation and you are not allowed to leave the roads nor lay in among the flowers for your Insta-Foto ;)

It does not get better. During the time, we have seen quite some monastery now but none with such an informative guide and passion for there history. We would definitely come back here should we ever go through Lüneburg again.
