We camped on the edge of the National park by the side of the river Tarn for 5 nights in September 2018. The Gorge du Tarn is absolutely stunning and the water is fantastic for swimming. We visited Roquefort, went canoing and also went to visit the site where you can see dinosaur footprints, as well as walking around the interesting towns and villages in the area. We also took a long day trip down to the Camargue. We had a super time and would definitely go back. If you like walking, outdoor activities, stunning landscapes then it is a fantastic place to visit, there was so much more to see.

Visit the Gorges du Tarn with a boatman for a guided tour of a natural site. It's a bit like an exhibition or a museum in the sun where a rare moment in an exceptional setting can be shared. In the most beautiful part of Gorges du Tarn, in the village of La Malene, the boatmen offer an 8-kilometre ride lasting around an hour, from April to October.

Gentiâne welcomes you to its pretty Cévennes hamlet from which you can explore the upper Cévennes hills: the peaks of Ventalon, Bougès and Mont Lozère, the sweeping depths of Vallée Longue and the Calberte region, following tracks formerly used by shepherds for transhumance, by postmen, by villagers when travelling to meetings or fairs and the Camisards when fighting Louis XIV's Black Dragon troops. Also, follow in the footsteps of the famous Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson and his donkey Modestine. Accommodation is available at Castagnols in a self catering guest house or bed and breakfast. You may also choose to prepare your own evening meals or join our 'table d'hôte'. Campers may set up tent for the night at the equipped bivouac area. We have 56 donkeys, 35 of them at your disposal for accompanying your trips into the inviting Cévennes countryside.

Moulin de La Malène proposes you canoe or kayak descent of the most beautiful part of the Tarn, between Sainte Enimie and Cirque des Baumes or Pas de Soucy, including the crossing of the Straits. We offer courses adapted to all levels and of varying lengths (6 circuits from 8 to 24 km). The Tarn, which takes its source at Mont Lozère, descends the slopes of the Cévennes of a fast and torrentous course. The Tarn sculpted the limestone plateaus (Causses Méjean and Causses de Sauveterre) and erosion gave the Gorges tormented forms that contrast their relief to the serenity of the Causses
