Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building. Sit in on a yoga session in Dolores Park or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

It took a lengthy remodel but Nickies is now even better than ever. The DJs are back along with an updated interior design that captures the feel of a neighborhood pub with a smooth dance club. Nickies also has a kitchen where the chefs create home-cooked favorites that satisfy your appetite. Happy Hour is seven days a week: Monday through Friday between 4-7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday between Noon - 4 p.m.

Discriminating beer lovers have a wide selection of brews to choose from at this Lower Haight pub.
As a female traveling solo, I usually do pay attention to local advice. As I was walking into Toronado on a sunny Sunday afternoon, a young guy walking slightly behind me quietly said, "Don't go in there"! And he kept on walking. I went in, and I'm not sorry because I had one of the best beer experiences ever. I read the beer board, which has an extensive selection of local beers, and when I just couldn't decide I left it up to the bartender who brought me a pint of Russian River Blind Pig IPA. Not a bad place to land! Clean glass, fresh pour, great beer. Bartender was quite the opposite of surly. Maybe it's attitude - be respectful, keep your face out of your phone, and have your cash ready. I'm pretty sure you'll have a good experience. The guy next to me at the bar was drinking a hazy IPA and it looked so good I had to ask - he recommended Alvarado St Flight of the Condor, and that was my next selection. It's now my favorite beer. I met some nice people at Toronado and I drank some excellent beer - in fact - the beer I had a Toronado was better than the stuff I tried at the SF Brew Fest the night before, so...if you're a beer lover, go to Toronado and bring cash! You'll be happy you went.
