What to do and see in Louisville, Kentucky (KY): The Best Tours

December 10, 2021 Mikaela Didonna

Each year, horse enthusiasts hoof it to Louisville and Churchill Downs, the legendary home of the Kentucky Derby. In addition to equestrian endeavors and bluegrass roots, Louisville boasts a range of exciting attractions the whole family can enjoy. Stroll through Central Park, in the historic district, to people-watch and get a real feel for the city. Visit other nearby parks for hiking, biking and fossil finding. Baseball fans will love the Louisville Slugger Museum, a celebration of the sport's legends. The museum is easy to spot, just look for the humongous bat that leans against the building.

My family and I really enjoyed this group activity! It was really challenging and entertaining, not to mention a surprise moment that had us doubled over laughing.???? If we’d had our missing team member there, we would’ve made it in time because we were sooooo close. We’ll definitely go back again soon!

Well after getting an email from trip advisor that our tour was canceled the day before we were coming to Louisville, I thought our trip was going to be a bust. I talked to Nick from this private tour company, and he found some availability for us on a bourbon tour and for another tasting. He spent close to an hour with me on the phone while he was checking on tour possibilities for us for the very next day! I cannot express my appreciation enough for all of his help! Oh and he did it free of charge!!!! You can believe the next time we plan on doing any tours in Louisville, we will be looking him up to help us. Hopefully farther in advance then the evening before!????Thanks again Nick for all your help!!

Lee Buckner is by far the best! Awesome Attitude. Always on Time. Know Distilleries, Cares about our experience. We were referred to him two years ago, and had a blast then. Just returned from our second tour with him. Once again awesome. If you want a guide who is happy, smart, on time and cares about your experience. Lee Buckner and TravelTheTrail is a MUST. Personalized Tours - I planned this with Lee, and Loved It.

March through November, daily; limited dates in the off-season! Our tours include more than St. James Court. We see twice as much as other neighborhood walking tours, visiting Ormsby Avenue, Park Avenue cottages, Floral Terrace, the Witches' Tree, and Millionaires Row. Bourbon barons, racetrack royalty, and titans of tobacco settled here in the 1800s. Today, impressive Victorian mansions and quirky residents have earned national attention for Old Louisville. Author David Dominé often guides groups himself. The New York Times recommends his tours as a MUST during a visitor's "36 Hours in Louisville." Learn more in A DARK ROOM IN GLITTER BALL CITY, David's next book—out in October 2021! Narrated walks depart from the transitional edge of the neighborhood. If you love old houses, this is the tour for you! If you do not like an up-and-coming neighborhood with a diverse racial make up, please stay home. If you can't go 90 minutes without a bathroom, this is not for you!
