Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces

Reviewed By Bestlambert - Taipei, Taiwan

The scenic spot is around 2.5 hour’s drive from Guilin downtown. It’s definitely more convenient to come with a car.
There are 3 major sites of Terrace fields, and all are numerous kilometers away from the entrance.
Tourists should buy the tickets at the entrance, which is 95 CNY per adult. After that, we head to one of the 3 major sites.
We went to the Da Jai and took the cable car to the summit (additional 55 CNY per adult), walking down by foot. The cable and the walk took 30 minutes and 1.5 hours respectively.
The scenery was magnificent, though in winter, only very small percentage of the fields were planted with vegetables.
Heard that some other tourists choose to stay here for a night and watch the sunrise in the Terrace fields. That sounds pretty smart to me!

Very beautiful scenery and hiking through he rice terraces. The paths are easy to walk on however there will be some stairs to climb up.
Many photo opportunities on clear days. Plenty of food and rest spots. Try the bamboo chicken or rice, smoked bacons, and homemade wine.

Long Sheng's Dragon Spine Rice Terraces

Cannot say enough about this place. Loved every moment! There is an entrance fee for the rice terraces about ¥100 per person. It is good for both the Ping'An and Dazhai areas. We only had time to see Dazhai terraces but would highly recommend two days to see both. An overnight is a must! The sunset and sunrise are spectacular.
Getting to the hotels in Dazhai with the amazing views is a little tricky. They are located at the top of the terraces. You will either have to make a 1 1/2-2 hour hike up or pay ¥150 for a jeep ride up. The "road" is insane. We arrived towards twilight with not enough to time to hike with our stuff so paid the driver. It was like off roading. Steep and muddy one lane road up, up, and up! Not for the faint hearted or those prone to car sickness.
Fun though :-)
The terraces have several stairs in some areas. The hikes are not recommended for those who have very small children or severe health problems. But you can still see the amazing views by taking the cable car up to the 3rd viewpoint. A round trip ticket is ¥80 per person. We hiked up and took the cable car back down (¥60) due to time constraints.
There are several shuttle buses and tour buses coming to and from Guilin and Yangshuo. Very easy to arrange transportation.

Jin Zhu Zhuang Nationality Village

Reviewed By Robert R - Chiang Mai, Thailand

This is an iconic Chinese seaside village that has undergone commercialization over the last 30 years. There are many shops, restaurant, trinket stores, and Buddhist temple attractions. The largest Buddhist facility was undergoing renovation in April of 2015.
The village has gondola rides on the twisting waterways throughout the attraction. Cost for a boat is about $20.00 USD and up to 6 people can ride per boat. The boat operator may offer to sing for 20 rmb (about $3.00 USD).
Our bus driver warned us some restaurants would employ bait-and-switch pricing but we heard no other tourists say they had this experience and between my companion and myself we speak 5 languages.
The streets are narrow and unless you visit in winter, weekends will be crowded, Shanghai has 17 million residents and is about 70 km away.
Outside of the admission required area, there are still many restaurants, shops, and views of the many stone arch Bridges crossing the waterways. Numerous photo ops are available.
The water isn't especially clean and some of the buildings are in some states of disrepair. In spite of these facts, it is a decent day trip for those wishing to get out of the city.

Longsheng Hot Spring

Reviewed By lanitrek - California

If you're a frequent international traveller and accustomed to visiting remote areas, you will appreciate this oasis.
The area: It's tucked in the Longsheng region surrounded by beautiful lush greens and mountain areas. It feels like driving through Lake Tahoe in California or remote parts of the northern east coast. It struck me as beautiful.
The resort: Remember you're in a remote part of China. This hotel is locally run. With those as a baseline I gave it four stars:
Lobby was large and welcoming, reception staff was above and beyond friendly. Many don't speak English but they try, which is much more than I can say for non-natives I've observed who did not attempt to speak mandarin.
Buffet offered great selection of Chinese and Japanese food.
I did walk around the grounds in the early morning, weather was cool at around 6-7 am for fast walking in the little shopping area adjacent to the resort.
I found my room clean. It smelled woodsy, but nothing different than other types of cabin-like properties I've visited elsewhere. Some colleagues who stayed in other rooms noted seeing a few bugs but I didn't see any.
I met the hotel manager, he was gracious, welcoming and went above and beyond to help make my group feel comfortable.
Overall it's a great local hotel, in the middle of nowhere in the Longsheng region. I would return and visit here again.
If you want to experience local flavor, but want to be in more comfy accommodations...stay here. Just think of it as a nice woodsy place. Don't expect a St. Regis Kauai resort, but expect local, comfy and unique.

Very knowledgeable guide, Rex, and a small group (8 people.) The drive takes two and a bit hours each way from Guilin, but the scenery is spectacular. Th rice paddies are in the Mountains because the Han people forced the local minority peope away from the fertile areas - 1500 years ago. The first roads didn't arrive here until the 1980's. Although it is becoming more commercialized, it is far less so than other attractions around the Gianxi area. Be prepared for a walk at the end of the drive.

Longji Tea House and Plantation

Reviewed By maureen101 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Our hotel recommended us to go visit this teahouse about 15min bus ride from Dazhai. Unfortunately the two guys did not speak english (but I could speak some so I was a translator for my family) but they told me when they have english speaking tourists they ask a friend of theirs who is an english teacher to translate. This is the genuine article, not made for tourists, they said they were there to educate people about tea and teach them how to appreciate tea, and at no time did they try to do sales pitch on their tea.
Not only that we were taken on a tour of their tea trees about 15mins hike uphill, then he asked if we would like to visit a local settlement of farmers, and off we went to see a 70year old farmhouse!
By the time we got back it was 1pm and we asked if we could buy lunch (this teahouse is a restaurant and hotel as well). The owners already had lunch prepared for themselves but invited us to join them, followed by another tea tasting, and a tour of their tea processing room. We ended up spending 5 hours there. Totally unexpected and very enjoyable and a good look at the local life.
There was no charge for the whole thing! We decided to buy more tea than we needed to repay their kindness! Very good green and red tea too!

Visit Our China

Located about 87 kilometers from Guilin City, Longsheng County is even a world famous destination in China for marvelous terraced rice fields and ethnic villages.

Reviewed By jeanpercf - London, United Kingdom

During our two week family trip in China in April, we spent a day visiting the Longji paddy fields with our guide.
It takes time to get there, but it is definitely worth the visit. It was a bit early in the season to see the terraces at their best, but it was still an amazing view.
On top of that, we had lunch in the village. it felt like being invited by local farmers to have a meal in their house. The food was the most authentic we had in the whole trip and was delicious!
Our whole trip was organised by "Visit our China", a tour operator based in Guilin. Their level of service has been second to none, and the day in Longji was on par with the rest of the trip. We can only recommend them, great value for money and they made our visit a fantastic experience!
