You’ll see double-decker buses and even the River Thames, but while London, Ontario, has clearly been inspired by its British namesake, this is a distinctly Canadian destination. Attractions like Fanshawe Pioneer Village, Banting House and Eldon House will captivate history buffs. Or indulge your, shall we say, slightly less cerebral side with a tour of the Labatt Brewery.

This is one of London's iconic locations. It includes Storybook Garden for children (and their grown-ups) and you can even skate the Storybook paths in winter. There is a miniature train and a carousel, both outside of Storybook Gardens and many, many venues for family picnics, strolls, walking the dog, or just viewing threes and river and things like that!

Yes, I am bored with sitting at home ... great place to walk around and get out into nature and walk the dog.

The views at Komoka Provincial park are amazing. You get a variety of scenery and some great views of wildlife. While hiking, I saw two beautiful deer about 10 feet from me. The weekends can get kind of busy, but there is plenty of trail to be socially distanced. Still, if you are local, I recommend weeknights. I really appreciated that they had staff on hand all day on the weekend to clean the washroom facilities. All in all, I recommend.

Join us for a day or a week! Fanshawe Conservation Area has so much to offer and we are only minutes away from London, Ontario. If you like camping, fishing, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, campfires, outdoor cooking or just relaxing in the shade with a book - Fanshawe Conservation Area is the place to be!
I decided to purchase a season's pass this year for Fanshawe as well as the two other sites that are part of the Upper Thames Conservation Area and was so pleased with the experience I have already purchased a pass for next year. Although I have not used the campground area in years, and have not visited the Pioneer Village nor Safety Village for ages, I was still able to get my money's worth with the great boating and hiking available. There are a couple of hiking trails in the park, one of which that takes you on a 22K trek around the lake which is beautiful as well as a much shorter one that is also quite enjoyable. When hiking on the larger route, be mindful that the trail is also used by bikers who will all be travelling either clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on which day it is. The trails are fairly well marked and even if you just do an in and out trip, the scenery is still beautiful. I would rate the terrain as moderate because the paths are not paved and you have to be mindful of rocks and tree roots as you hike. Just across the dam, there is a boat launch area that has plenty of parking. The lake is large enough that you do not feel crowded if there are other boats on the water, but small enough that you can easily travel the east-west length in an hour or so. I have not done the longer stretch, but plan to next year. If you do not have your own boat, rentals are available on a first come, first served basis and come with paddles, a boat kit and life jackets. A bonus for aviation lovers is that the lake is near the airport, so you can see planes flying overhead occasionally. If you are just looking for a leisurely day, there are plenty of scenic picnic areas withing the park with lots of parking available. There are a couple of play areas as well as some washrooms.
