This gallery is a hidden gem and well worth a visit! Beautiful artwork in a variety of mediums, some gorgeous landscape paintings particularly of the west coast. Also smaller works, beautifully painted stones and cards. You can look at Gill’s sketchbooks as she works in her gallery, she is an incredibly talented artist, and very warm and welcoming. You could link the gallery in with a walk through the woodland from strontian.

We are a museum set in Cameron Square which is just off of the centre of Fort William High Street. We have eight rooms packed with fascinating objects, from treasure from a shipwrecked Spanish Armada galleon to the bagpipes played at Bannockburn in 1314. Whether its archaeology, natural history, Commando training and weaponry, Highland crofting life, costumes and charms, Victorian times, silver, coins and medals, or even the history of mountain rescue, it can all be found at the West Highland Museum.
Fascinating history in small place. Brilliant, very helpful and friendly staf. Exhibition about green beret was the most interesting. This is an independent museum with free admission so please think about donation to rescue this unique little treasure.

A museum dedicated to the history of the Clan Cameron. With displays on the Jacobite rising of 1745, and military history of the Cameron Highlanders and Commando training during WW2.
Visiting this museum really made a very big difference to our trip to Scotland and I am very glad we came here. The exhibits do a very good job at explaining how what happened during the 1745 rising came to be, but it also brings home the very human costs and consequences in a way you seldom see. I feel that visiting this museum enriched my appreciation of other sites we visited both before and after (such as Inveraray Castle and Culloden Battlefield) They do a lot with what they have and the museum is very well run and well taken care of. The lady at the front desk was friendly and the gift shop is well stocked. The drive to the museum is single track some of the way, but it was a fun drive and it was also incredibly beautiful.

Absolutely brilliant way to spend an hour or so in a wet day, amazing collection of fascinating geological bits. Crystals, gems and dinosaur fossils, all very well presented in an engaging format for you and old. Really enjoyed reading the facts and learned loads, the displays are stunning! The gift shop is also really reasonably priced I got some great interesting bits, very pleased.

My wife and I visited the museum in September 2020 while we were visiting Glenfinnan for a short 3-day break. Due to Covid restrictions visits had to be pre-booked and this was very easily done. We were given a very personal guided tour around the many interesting and varied exhibits by John and Hege who virtually run the whole operation double-handedly! We were extremely lucky to be present at the moment when the Jacobite Express steamed into the station for the first of its daily visits. We then walked the Glenfinnan Viaduct Trail down to the 'Harry Potter' bridge, which was an extremely enjoyable way of seeing the countryside around this fantastic part of the Highlands. All in all a wonderful experience and one which I unhesitatingly recommend to everyone. You certainly don't have to be a railway enthusiast to enjoy the museum, or any of its surroundings.

Return trip to Mallaig by car this time, beautiful sunny day. Waiting on ferry over to Skye so wandered back into heritage centre. Same cheery lady was on and overheard her once again giving directions to Restaurants in Mallaig. She remembered me too, spent time having a look around and bought bits in the shop. Well worth spending time in the heritage, lovely cheery staff. Lovely visit to a busy Mallaig on Wednesday 28 August hope to be back next year.

This is a fantastic museum. It is devoted to the Commandos and has such interesting artefacts especially relating to WW2. There are accounts from people who took part in the war and also representations from more recent conflicts. There are files with personal letters and photographs and the information is from people worldwide. It is well worth a visit but allow plenty of time.
