What to do and see in Little Italy, New York (NY): The Best Things to do

June 26, 2021 Trinity Boughner

Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

We picked up a red wine from the di palo wine shop next door and paired it with salami, prosciutto, ricotta, mozzarella & stiffer cheeses and olives. Talk about delicious combination! We talked with Lou di Palo who just wrote a new book and he is a very gracious person. It was a pleasure to stop by there and I will definitely return next time I am in NYC.

E. Rossi & Company is the oldest gift shop of its kind in New York's Little Italy. It is chock full of Italian treasures, and items of interest to Italian Americans. Proprietor Ernesto is a joy to meet, and the space is infused with the charm of nostalgia and tradition. Buonissimo!

I visited this cheese shop because I read that it is the oldest in the US - established in 1892. I had a lovely experience. The service was so friendly and helpful. I asked for recommendations and was advised to get the ricotta and the truffle cheese. Both were delicious.

This wonderful little church brings peace and solace. The priests offer enlightening homilies that I look forward to beforehand and reflect on afterwards. Be sure to spend some time in the shrine to San Gennaro. Its relics are beautiful.
