The Musee Petiet in Limoux is a Fine Art museum and an approved Musée de France. Its collections are largely made up state owned works from the Musée d'Orsay and Musée national d'art moderne - Centre Georges Pompidou - and the Musée du Louvre. Three collections owned by the tow include the work of three remarable local artists : - Marie Petiet, founder with her father of the museum that bears their name, - Etienne Dujardin-Beaumetz husband of Marie and politician - Achille Laugé internationally recognized divisionist painter.
This lovely little gallery was a wonderful surprise. It holds a number of paintings of the French painter Marie Petiet together with some remarkable examples of a variety of 19th century French artists. Petiet (who exhibited under her married name as Marie Dujardin-Beaumetz) was a revelation to me. I would absolutely recommend a visit. In August 2020 we were only charged 3 euros each. There are only a few rooms but some of them are jam packed with paintings (and a few sculptures). I suggest you would need an hour for a visit but the pieces justify a longer visit. They have a couple of tiny desks with coloured felt tips for children.

What a fantastic tour. I had no idea what it takes to make sparkling wine. My friends and I went on a dreary day and I'm so glad we did. We were led underground to see how and where the magic happens. We tasted several sparkling wineafter the amazing tour and were able to purchase some. I'm saving mine until June 2020 for our 30th anniversary.
