What to do and see in Lima, Lima Region: The Best Food Tours

October 12, 2021 Claudia Navarrete

Lima, founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535, is a fascinating city and a treasure trove of history. Explore ancient Incan archeological sites, or stroll through the elegant cathedrals and opulent palaces dating from Spanish colonial times. Downtown Lima is crowded, but you'll enjoy exploring the city's neighborhoods—especially the beachfront areas, which have great shopping and dining and fabulous hotels.

In November 2019 I had a tour with Julio, and now I can say that it was my best sightseeing tour in the year. Julio is a nice guide/buddy, and this tour is very well organized. Julio picked me up by calling me to my room at the hotel front desk exactly at 9:00AM. During the tour we saw many places of Lima, including the local market, the historic center, Parque de la Muralla and Barranco District. Julio knows every aspect of Lima transportation system, so we were able to move between important places quickly and without traffic jams. The tour took 4 hours, and they were action-packed hours. You won't be able to finish early and in fact you will be a little exhausted after the tour. I recommend that you take this particular sightseeing tour and another tour outside of Lima. While this is a good tour, there is a lot places you need to see outside of Lima in Peru.

It was lots of fun. We had one day left in Lima and decided to come here based on a recommendation by our hotel. The most delicious activity after our entire Peru trip, because it was relaxed and we did not have to get up early. The group was small and there was plenty of chocolate for everyone. I would not pinpoint it as a must do in case you have not much time available, but in case you have one day free, go for it ;)

This was a great way to explore the city and taste the most authentic Peruvian food at the same time. Because of the current Covid restrictions in Lima, we couldn’t quite do the night tour, but Emilie was kind enough to put together a few of their other experiences into one great trip. My guide Ximena was great! The food was amazing, definitely a great experience
