Lillehammer gained international fame as the host of the 1994 Winter Olympic Games. Since then, tourism has flourished in this Norwegian city. Skiing is excellent, of course, but even non-skiers can experience the thrill of the slopes by taking a lift to the top of Lysgårdsbakken Olympic ski jump site. Explore the awesome collections and structures of the Maihaugen open-air museum or hike the Fåberg Cultural Trail to the site of ancient petroglyphs.

With the very edge of the mountains as starting point, visitors have every opportunity to experience cross-country skiing at its best. The network of trails connects to the Lillehammer, Hafjell and Sjusjoen networks, and over 2,500 km of trails are available in total. The mountain plateaus, offering cross-country ski trails through open and gentle terrain, are within easy reach. If the weather turns bad, the forests close by provide excellent shelter from the wind. Nordseter offers excellent ski and equipment hire facilities.

The lift has one prepared slope for downhill skiing and snowboarding of 500 meters, with a drop of 80 meters in total. This suite perfect for families with small children who wants to learn downhill skiing. We do also have ski instructors. This lift does not produce fake-snow, and is one of the first ski lifts to open with only nature snow. That means that the snow condition is also less icy than in many other centres. With Mosetertoppen as starting point, follow a dirt road to Moksjoen. At the tree-line, continue on gravel around lake Reinsvann and down to Nordseter. From Nordseter, follow the route trough an enchanting forest to Grotasen. At Grotasen there are some 300 metres of unridable terrain before you reach a fun and slightly technical track leading down to Turthaugveien. Turn left and follow the dirt road for approx. 5 km. Then turn right onto a trail leading towards Hafjell and Mosetertoppen. This is the route used for the “Birketest”, and will determine whether your fitness level is good enough to take on the Birkebeiner MTB Race.
