Letterkenny (Irish: Leitir Ceanainn, meaning "hillside of the O'Cannons"), nicknamed "the Cathedral Town", is the largest and most populous town in County Donegal, Ireland. It lies on the River Swilly in east Donegal and has a population of 19,274. Along with the nearby city of Derry, Letterkenny is considered a regional economic gateway. Letterkenny acts as an urban gateway to the Tír Chonaill Gaeltacht, similar to Galway's relationship to the Connemara Gaeltacht.

McCafferty's Bar is an award winning pub just two miles from Letterkenny town centre. It has unrivaled views over Glenveagh National Park and of Errigal and Muckish mountains in particular. With a westerly facing aspect it is a perfect spot to watch the sun go down when the weather allows. Inside there are two open fires and traditional decor with an impressive array of irish antique pub mirrors gathered over the decades. You will find a warm welcome and a perfect pint awaits. In short - this is great place to meet up and have the craic with your friends.

Mc Ginleys Bar is a wonderful old-style pub with an open turf fire. One of the longest-established music pubs in Letterkenny, McGinleys has live music from Wednesday through to Saturday night, including traditional music on a Wednesday evening. The bar is a fantastic place for quiet drinks during the week or lively entertainment at the weekend.
Great pub: well-run, clean and safe where the atmosphere is always buzzing and the craic good. Without doubt one of the best bars in town and none of that super pub, fake rubbish. Dark and dingy downstairs during the day for a quiet one, lively and atmospheric upstairs at night for a big night out. Great beer garden and double decker bus kitchen to provide you with pizza! A must-visit for a decent night out in LK!

Letterkenny Park or Ballymacool Park is a grand park on the outskirts of the town. It is part of the former Ballymacool Estate now taken over by the local council. It starts off on the flat and climbs up towards Ballymacool wood. There is ample parking with public toilets. The views are spectacular looking down on the river Swilly as it makes its way towards Lough Swilly and into the sea. In these troubling times it is nice to be able move around and especially for those with small kids. At the moment it has escaped Covid 19 restrictions. Best of all it is free.
