This museum is amazing its full of tons of information and lots of examples of items and weapons also took a good couple of hours and was also free of charge on the day we visited although extremely cheap for whats involved on other days also! If your into your history this place is more than worth it and more than worth the short walk from the old town!

Museum of Communist Poland

Not sure what the situation with the name of this museum is. Seems to be called different things on different reviews? I think it's now a branch of the Krakow Museum. Anyway, I think the museum is relatively new as it was not mentioned in my Krajow guidebook but instead found it online. Really glad this museum exists - it gives a great overview of the steelworks of Nowa Huta and the lives of the people that worked there. It's housed in a typical 'socialist realist' cinema, looking like it could have come straight out of a Moscow suburb. The exhibits were modern and interesting, and the underground bunker that houses a museum on the shelters of Nowa Huta was one of the highlights of Krakow for me, being very interested in Cold War and Soviet history. There is another branch of the museum within a 15 minute walk, which was much smaller but worth a look if you have time. Overall I'm really glad I visited this place when in Krakow. The old town and castle are great and important parts of Polish history - but the Nowa Huta museum tells the story of another very important part of the history of Krakow and Poland.

The museum's collection includes items from World War I and World War II, which is one of the largest collections of soldier equipment from that period in Poland.
