Leksand Sommarland is one of the first "sommarland" in Sweden. The company was founded in 1984 and is today one of the most fun family park in Sweden. Most of the fun activities you can think of is available here and the park has the longest water slide in the world at 300 m. We also have one of Sweden's longest zipline at 300 m long. New for 2015 is three pieces of rope courses at 10 m height and two at 2 m height. We have also built a 9 hole disc golf park and received two new alpacas in the mini farm. Next to us is our lovely campsite which is one of Sweden's largest. If you stay with us you can take advantage of our discounted sommarland package. Welcome to us this summer!
For those who pay it will be a little different.Once you have paid the not quite cheap entrance get ready for wet and exciting activities.A pool area with slides, rapids and free fall is the major attraction. Mediocre selection of food and a bit too chilly temperatures in the pool area for most adults.

It was a bit muddy, but lovely views. We ate at the cafe and wandered around a bit. I would like to return during the summer months.

I have to buy as many packages of knackebrod as I can carry home on the plane. This place is great! See where they make it, and all the different styles and flavors of the Swedish Hard bread. I was surprised to find that they even sell frozen knackepizza here now. I tried one and it was good too, but I prefer plain old knackebrod, butter and cheese.

Toured the church in Leksand during our visit to Sweden. My Great grandmother was a member of this parish. The church, the cemetry and the overlook of the lake are all breathtaking. So peaceful and lovely. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Enjoyed talking with the church staff that were on hand the day we were there. Also had a nice visit with the city workers repairing the road nearby. Friendly and warm people.

Visit the home of swedish composer and painter Hugo Alfven and experience his lite, art and music.
I visited the Alfven museum, near the town of Leksand, on my 27-day cycling trip in Sweden. It is situated in a suburb hamlet, roughly 2 km from Leksand town, thus in the generally picturesque Dalarna region, traditionally seen as quintessentially representing Swedish folk culture, and the preferred home of other artists like the painters Carl Larsson and Anders Zorn, the author Selma Lagerlöf often popping in there too, etc.
As regards Swedish composer´s museums, Alfvengården is perhaps-perhaps less known than the Peterson-Berger museum a good deal further north, near Östersund.
Entrance fee includes a very well-informed, service-minded guided tour (staff comprises several people on the spot), and the possibility of viewing a short film about the composer.
Contrary to the situation in many Swedish museums (including Zorn´s and Larsson´s), one is allowed to take photos inside also, which is very nice.
The house has a lived-in atmosphere, with lots of musical memorabilia, and some very nice examples of his painterly talents, including water-colors from Italy and Sweden. Also, some nice examples of Swedish interiors and other paintings. Alfven even re-created a South-Italy en miniature in one of the smaller, sunlit rooms in the house, painting the walls white, supplementing with green plants, Italian ceramics and pictures, etc.
There were several pianos, and a lot of scores, obviously due to Alfven´s conducting career, but it´s not quite as lavish or rich home otherwise, compared to Zorn´s luxurious, hi-end one at Mora, or Larsson´s densely decorated, collector-loaded one in Sundborn. The guide told a lot if interesting biographical details and other background information.
When I visited, the Swedish pianist Melker Stendahl was there, having given a concert there the day before, on one of Alfven´s pianos. Generally, they offera good deal of Concerts there, worth considering as well.
My tour was in Swedish - but I believe if you contact them, you might ask for an English one too.

I went to this museum when I was visiting friends in Leksand. It was free, and had an wonderful collection of Dal Paintings. Its current exhibit featured the use of leather in Sweden, and I have to say the collection was beautiful. It had information in both English and Swedish, and an area for children. Definitely fun for anyone interested in Dalarna culture.
Outside of the museum are the examples of different style of homes from around Dalarna. We had the opportunity to go into a few of the houses that were open. Outside each house has a description and date in both English and Swedish.
