Nothing quite like a wonder along a canal towpath during a nice English summers day. The sights and sounds are beautiful, it’s also nice to sit and reflect whilst watching the narrow boats pass by.

Thornton Reservoir is a peaceful and picturesque location that offers a network of trails and footpaths around the reservoir and through the neighbouring woodland areas. There are also links with longer trails including the Leicester Round and various other public footpaths. This scenic reservoir also has a popular fly fishery, attracting anglers from all over the midlands. The site is open every day from dawn until dusk apart from Christmas Day. Car parking Car parking is available for visitors to Thornton Reservoir free of charge. There are disabled parking bays located in the car park with good views of the reservoir.

We had been saying we would visit the Reservoir for many months and finally we did. It was a beautiful sunny day in September. The paths were excellent and as my husband has trouble walking on uneven paths this was the best we have been on in a while, and the views around the lake were magnificent. It is dog friendly and some nice public houses around for refreshments. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We have been going here since lockdown and it is a great walk. You can meet up with friends and family and have a lovely walk round which doesn’t take long while chatting away. We go nearly everyday to see the ducks and swans as well as climbing and playing hide and seek.

Great place for diving. Good facilities. Well stocked shop for all your diving equipment. And recharging diving cylinders. Cafe open all day. Good bar and restaurant
