Leeds Art Gallery

Please note that Leeds Art Gallery will be temporarily closed to visitors after British Art Show 8 ends on 10th January 2016. This is to allow for major repairs to the Victorian roof of the building. The building will reopen in 2017. The beautiful Tiled Hall cafe will remain open to visitors whilst these works take place as will the Gallery shop. We apologise for the disappointment this will cause.

We had an enjoyable afternoon although other people would perhaps not spend as long as we did. Therr is a good range of pictures and exhibits in the fixed galleries but any temporary exhibits may vary. The Henry Moore (attached) is a little disappointing given the lack of Henry Moore's! Exhibits in the Institute and the Gallery were however all good from our point of view. The kids we saw visiting seemed to enjoy their tour. There is an excellent coffee shop/restaurant that is worth a visit just to look at the ceiling and the tiles. Also, If you wander over to the library there is more amazing architecture to see - don't confine yourself to the main galleries.

Henry Moore Institute

The Henry Moore Institute is dedicated to celebrating sculpture. We welcome everyone to experience, study and enjoy sculpture. We are an international research centre located in the vibrant city of Leeds, where Henry Moore began his training as a sculptor. In our iconic building we host a year-round changing programme of historical, modern and contemporary exhibitions presenting sculpture from across the world. We are open seven days a week and are free to all.

This is not a huge, blockbuster exhibition, but it is beautifully curated. Early HM drawings and quite figurative sculptures, were contrasted with an excellent selection of work by his contemporaries. An absolute must for anyone interested in the development of modern British art.
