Lazio (UK: /ˈlætsioʊ/, US: /ˈlɑːtsioʊ/; Italian: [ˈlatsjo]; Latin: Latium) is one of the 20 administrative regions of Italy. Situated in the central peninsular section of the country, it has almost 5.9 million inhabitants – making it the second most populated region of Italy (after Lombardy and just a little ahead of Campania) – and its GDP of more than 170 billion euros per annum means that it has the nation's second largest regional economy. The capital of Lazio is Rome, which is also Italy's capital and the country's largest city.

We caught the bus from Orvieto to Civita and it was well worth the trip. Civita is full of picture postcard vistas and offers fascinating insights into the Etruscan caverns that underlie the town above. A truly beautiful place to visit, be prepared for the walk across the bridge to the town, as there are no cars or buses. A town that has endured seismic activity over the centuries and the loss of a few buildings on its periphery, Civita is a must see for those interested in seismology or anyone who appreciates a magnificent hilltop town.

Nice area for walks and to visit Janiculum Hill, a fifteen-minute walk up Via Garibaldi from the place di Sant' Egidio to the summit of the Janiculum Hill with the most beautiful view of the center of Rome; the place is dedicated to Garibaldi's defence of the Roman Republic of 1849; to admire the equestrian monument of Garibaldi.
