The history oozes from this building and be sure to see the attached museum and the original Rules of Basketball, signed by James Naismith himself. Lots to see here, including the game!

The Watkins Museum of History tells many stories about the diverse people and events of this area. We have an exciting array of programs and rotating exhibits. Our community room can be rented for events. Our expert staff and volunteers can assist with genealogy and local history research.
Three floors of interesting local historical artifacts housed in a renovated building more than 100 years old. No forced admission charge, but donations are encouraged.

Massachusetts Street is basically the Downtown in Lawrence. It is a lively and beautiful street teeming with a variety of retail businesses. In fact, there are two brewery restaurants well worth the visit. Just one block west is the wonderful library, a modern architectural design not to be missed. Then there is the South Park, a beautiful community park with a lovely garden. The Kansas River Levee trail is not too far from Massachusetts; it is a nice place to walk and enjoy the expansive views of the river if it is not a hot day. All in all, Massachusetts Street is an enjoyable downtown area for leisurely walk, shopping and food.

We attended The Haygoods Christmas Show 12/13/2019. This was our first visit to the Lied Center. It was easy to find, had plenty of parking, and was well-maintained inside and out. The shining star of this place is the staff. Simply outstanding!!! Every single staff member we encountered greeted us with a warm, friendly smile. Made us feel right at home. We heard there were over 1,500 in attendance. I was amazed at how quickly the theater cleared...plenty of room for this mass to move around. The seats are pretty comfortable. I would say it's better to sit in the center section for the best stage view. We were on a side and couldn't see everything clearly for the particular show. #kudos to the staff #teamhaygood @thehaygoods Thank you for a wonderful evening!!

My grandchildren love touring the Museum at KU. I take them there each quarter. I love walking the KU area. It is such a pretty campus.

I was there for a track and field championship and was most impressed with the facility, which includes throws venues to the north of the track. The only downside is the dearth of bathroom facilities for people trackside. What's with that?

Sunflowers galore! There is no admission fee and parking was no problem. Grinter Farms has several fields of sunflowers and visitors can walk among the beautiful flowers. If you like photography, the possibilities are endless. We were there on a sunny September day and the combination of the sunshine and the glorious yellow fields was well worth the drive.
