We went in the afternoon and there were few there. We were warmly greeted by the front desk personnel and the security guard, who barbeques and who recommended a good place to eat. We learned the history of the museum and spent two or three hours exploring the many rooms and exhibits. There are European, American and British isles artist as well as an exhibit of an Indian artist and many collections including a fascinating exhibit of baskets. This museum could be in any major metropolitan city but is a true gem in Laurel. Due to the generosity of its benefactor it is free to see.

We stopped because my maternal grandmother is a Landrum so we felt a personal connection. The family is related, but we aren't sure how. The owners were friendly. It was rainy and cold, so not a great night to be there. We did pay to go through and got hot chocolate and a funnel cake (yum). There was a place to sit with covered picnic tables. We enjoyed shopping. They had items with Landrum, shirts, bags, etc...my family was very happy with their souvenirs. They also have their homemade jellies and jams and sauces. They have a huge store with all kinds of things. They have a village that takes you back in time and special music, etc...Great place to visit with your family of all ages. Historical. We want to go back when the weather is nicer.

This military museum, founded in 1996, is home to thousands of military artifacts and memorabilia. The museum also owns an extensive library which includes books, periodicals, newspapers, documentaries, and movies of the military genre. The museum is available for tours, research, and education about our local veterans and their contributions to our military services.
My husband and I are both retired from the US Air Force Reserve and Active Duty. The museum is loaded with memorabilia and donated items from family and military members from the Civil War to current. When you come in the door you are greeted by a row of manikins dressed in a variety of military uniforms. I noted there wasn't a female Air Force uniform and offered to donate mine, provided I still have it. I certainly wouldn't be able to get into it anymore. I might not have the uniform but I do have my black leather purse that was issued to me in 1972 and my beret hat. Definitely a place to visit, staffed by volunteers and donations.
