Langkawi is a serene archipelago of 140 islands – only a few of which are inhabited. The largest of these is the eponymous Langkawi Island, which has UNESCO World Geopark status because of its richly populated (by wildlife, that is) conservation areas. The best way to experience these ecological wonders is from high above, on the Langkawi Sky Bridge that stretches above the rainforest. Cheekily-named Pregnant Maiden freshwater lake is a great place to take a dip or play keep-away with the kleptomaniac monkeys.

We stayed with Eric at the Rumah Holistic for 10 days, and we enjoyed our time very much. Eric is an excellent host. He made our stay very enjoyable and relaxed. His place is in the Jungle, which gave us a great experience to enjoy nature and the quiet relaxing environment. Besides, Eric is a great cook and prepared delicious Breakfasts and lunch on request. If you are a nature lover and like to be away from the busy beaches and cities' hectic, this is the place to go. I am already looking forward to the next time we can visit this place.

It was so good I went back for another session the following day. The open air, sea facing spa villa, perched on a cliff at the North side of The Andaman offered a beautiful sea view and natural sound of waves crashing onto the cliff. Had the Chakra Balancing massage on day 1 and Time traveller massage on day 2. Came out relaxed from the first, and sore muscles rejuvenated from the second. A small detractor on day 2 was the noise of either speed boat or some machinery during treatment which was loud enough to be bothersome. The massage itself was nonetheless still great, hence the 5 star despite the minor blemish.

The first thing you notice when you enter the Salt Cave is the floor: It crunches. Your bare feet slide gingerly across the gravel-like floor covered with 4,000 pounds of Himalayan salt crystals. The walls around you are lined with pink and orange-hued bricks of salt. As you slide into one of the zero-gravity chairs, you hear the sound of crashing waves streaming from overhead speakers. As you relax and your breathing slows and deepens, you inhale air pumped with pharmaceutical-grade salt. After a few minutes, you touch your tongue to your lips and taste salt, feel your nasal caves opening, and your body full with oxygen. A relaxing sensory and mental experience that your body will thank you for!

Hovering over the Andaman Sea, the spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi draws inspiration from ancient Malaysian healing and beauty ceremonies practiced by shamans and midwives. The island’s only overwater spa features six treatment rooms (three for couples; each with a view), a spacious deck, a relaxation area and a hammam.
