The Commonweal Theatre is Southeast Minnesota's premier live, professional, rotating repertory theatre. The season of 5 plays, plus an apprentice company production, runs March through December.
I didn’t really know what to expect. My wife suggested we bring my 82 year old mother for a Christmas play hoping she would like getting out and see something entertaining. The cast and performances were excellent. The theater is cozy, comfortable, and the sight lines are very good. My mother loved it and so did my wife and I. We’ve been to theaters in NY, Chicago, Minneapolis and other places in the country and this theater and cast would fit right in.

We rode our bikes on the Root River Trail from Lanesboro to Preston and back. It is a beautiful stretch of trail passing rocky ledges and open fields of wildflowers. It is pretty popular so a weekday is probably better than a weekend on a beautiful summer day. This is a rail trail so the slopes are very mild at least on this stretch and it is paved so it is quite smooth. This is one of the prettiest rides I have taken on a long time. There is parking across the river just west of downtown (next to the lake and across from the ballpark). There is walking access from this lot into downtown via footpath. The towns are quaint with many attractions. Lanesboro has many places to eat, relax or rent a bike, canoe or kayak if you need.
