Sean, the beekeeper, has been raising bees since he was 12 yrs old. With Denise, the Queen Bee (aka wife) we now have 80-90 hives on a mountain top in Western NC. We live with a few million bees and the rest of the wildlife who call our sanctuary home...or hive. Sean is a certified NC Bee Keeper, a mentor and lecturer. Sean is one of a handful of Americans certified with the Italian Register of Experts and UC Davis in the Sensory Analysis of Honey, indeed a "honey sommelier".

Our gems are natural and only come from our mountains. We come out to the flume to identify the stones. We will custom wire wrap any stone you find. We also will cut, polish and set in gold or silver any stone. We can also do some jewelry repairs. We teach stone cutting and wire wrapping. We are open daily rain or shine, flume is partially covered. We have jewelry for sale all year. We also have buckets "to go" take it home and do it there. You never know what treasures you will find. The guided gold panning trips are now available. We also do guided gem mining trips where we find 'um, spend the day or half a day, we take all the equipment with us. There is gold in every creek and river here. And we are "plopped" right on US 64 in beautiful Lake Toxaway, we have parking available from cars to motor homes even school buses. This year we are making pottery. And yes we are hand building hand warmer mugs. We are selling wholesale and retail. Groups welcome, ask about our group discounts.
The newer and updated gem mining place is a few miles up the road. Called Bear Tracks Gem Mine. It is next door to a Citgo gas station. Loads of fun. Plenty of gems to mine for. Really fun for the whole family!

In Gorges State Park, Upper Bearwallow Falls is a moderate, one mile roundtrip hike. There are benches along the way in the steep areas to stop and rest (for the way back). Go past the Gorges State Park Visitor Center and take the next left. Follow the road 0.9 miles to the second picnic area on the right for the Upper Bearwallow trailhead. It's at the bottom of the parking lot not up by the picnic pavilion and restrooms. This trail is accessible from the Bearwallow and White Pines Picnic areas, and via the Visitor Center Connector trail. Follow the BLUE triangle for this trail.
