What to do and see in Lake Maggiore, Piedmont: The Best Day Trips from
On the south side of the Alps, Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Italy. Since the climate is mild year-round, the area is filled with Mediterranean vegetation and exotic plants. Lake Maggiore was featured in Ernest Hemingway's infamous novel, A Farewell to Arms, when the protagonist and his lover must row across the lake in order to escape the Italian Carabinieri (think police in military uniforms). Here's hoping you won't have any run-ins of that nature.

Although the owner was pleasant, he seemed to have limited knowledge/information about the wines. The Sicilian dishes supposed to be paired were a piece of bread with sundried tomatoes on it and a fish ball - that’s it, nothing else. Not paired with wines as advertised and no other food or nibbles, again as advertised in the pictures. The wines were nice but but barely a mouthful. Once the restaurant started getting busy we were ignored so just left. Really not worth the money as we walked to a nearby bar a bought a bottle of similar quality wine for €22 and got free snacks!!

Able to speak perfect french and russian Gianluca is very nice, on time and resourceful. Will definitely hire him next time we are in Milan or in the surroundings. Highly recommended

4. Lake Maggiore Daytrip from Milan - Private

The tour guide was knowledgeable and provided detailed information taking us do all the major sites including the Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, Pantheon and others. The trip was well planned for us and all in all a delightful experience. Of note for cruise passengers that sign up for a Rome tour, abort a 70 mile drive,the driver is not allowed to leave the vehicle to offer any guide services and a separate guide must be separately arranged or you are dropped off on your own at the various sites. Our tour provided for complete coverage seamlessly. Other tours may offer complete service but I found none that met our needs
5. Lake Maggiore and Borromeo Islands PRIVATE Guided Tour
A one-day private guided tour starting from Como or Milan. We reach Stresa on a comfortable 8-seat van and then using a private taxi-boat we will visit the three famous Borromeo Islands: the elegant internals and the gardens of Isola Bella Palace (N.B. open from March to October). The most incredible train ride of my life!!! Giovanni was such an amazing tour guide that really went out of his way to show us around. The train ride itself through the Swiss Alps was breathtaking. I will most certainly come back and do it again.

We pick you up anywhere within 10km of Como in a luxury air conditioned minivanand after brief introductions begin the one hour drive to Lago Maggiore, one of the largest lakes in Italy! Lago Maggiore is known for its stunning Alpine backdrop and elegant lakefront promenades. Upon arrival in Stresa you will have a once in a lifetime chance to take in one of the most picturesque towns in Northern Italy. Wander around pretty Stresa before embarking on a tour of the Borromean Islands, hopping on and off one or all three of the tiny island towns of Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori, and Isola Madre. Have lunch on any one of the three postcard perfect islands and be sure to take plenty of photos, as this trip is highly "instagrammable"! Had a wonderful day with Chiara. We learned so much and gained a friend in the process. She has a zest for life which is absolutely contagious. Hopefully we can come back when this pandemic is all over and book again.
