What to do and see in Lahaina, Hawaii (HI): The Best Transportation

June 17, 2021 Elouise Mccaul

Lahaina, the former Hawaiian capital, was the center of the global whaling trade, and its Historic District is a National Historic Landmark. Traditional Hawaiian luaus, surf lessons and tours on horseback are fun, but let’s be realistic—you wouldn’t be in Hawaii if you didn’t want to go to the beach. Try Ka’anapali Beach, one of Maui’s best.

Our family reserved Christopher's for a private island tour of Maui. We were picked up at the port and driven to specific locations throughout the island; our itinerary on our schedule. Having carefully researched our car service choice, expectations were high. The beautiful car and outstanding service exceeded our expectations! Our driver "DK" was extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and added so much to our day. He knew exactly where we wished to go (even though we were vague about some locations) and added a few additions along the way. DK was always prompt (we made several long stops along the route), professional, and a very safe driver. He personally made a fun day into an incredible day! There simply are not enough superlatives to accurately describe Christopher's. They will be our 'one and only' Maui car service from this point forward!

Maui Bus Public Transit System

Reviewed By Larry-Calif - San Francisco, United States

The Maui Bus Public Transit is excellent and reliable. It is the least expensive expensive way to get around like locals. The Transit System is owned by Maui County and operates under contract by Roberts of Hawaii. The fare is $2 per person one way with no transfer. No senior discount. The All-Day Pass is only $4 with unlimited rides until midnight of the same day ((ask for All-Day Pass before you pay)). A few of the drivers are not friendly; probably because they get the same questions everyday. Maui Bus App is very useful to use. I was in Maui for 3 days and I was able to time my departure from hotel and get to the bus stop to catch the bus. Maui Bus app is available from the Apple Store. There are no instructions on how to use the app online anywhere. But play around and it comes together. Maui Bus App Instructions: 1. After opening the app, pinch in the light blue screen. ((For some strange reason the app opens to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean)). 2. Keep pinching in until you see the world map; then swish left or right until you see the Pacific Ocean. 3. Pinch out until you see Hawaii and later Maui. 4. The blue dots are bus spots; pinch out to see the area or neighborhood you are interested in. 5. Touch the blue bus stop where you want to take the bus. 6. Information bar will appear on the bottom screen: Name of the Bus Stop; the grey bar showing Bus # and Bus Route Name; white bar will show Bus Name, direction, % bus capacity; arrival time & how long before it get to bus stop. 7. If more than one bus route stops at that particular bus stop, information will be listed for all buses. 8. If you use this particular bus stop often, touch the blue heart to indicate favorite bus stop for quick reference. Maui Bus App - Navigation Menu 1. At the top left is the Navigation Menu. 2. Touch the 3-line icon; a menu will drop down showing: Ride, Announcements, Alerts, Plan My Trip, & More Info. 3. Check Announcements for any news regarding route changes, traffic delays, etc concerning the Bus Route you are interested in While I was on Maui, I found that the BEST MAUI BUS was funny to ride.
