La Palma is a pristine paradise, set against a backdrop of volcanic landscape. Perhaps the best way to experience La Palma’s rugged beauty is a hike through the Caldera de Taburiente National Park or the narrow gorges of Los Tilos. The cool waters of natural swimming hole Charco Azul beckon on a steamy day. The dark sands of Playa Nueva are great for sunbathing and cat naps.

A stunning site to behold from different points. Definitely worth visiting by La Cumbrecita visitors' centre, very easy to reach by bus or tax or car, from which taxis are also available though some walk the steep climb to the initial viewpoint or drive to the Parking Point. An easy walk from there takes you into the caldera and even this arthritic old lady with bronchial asthma found it very comfortable gently down for the first kilometre and gently up back again.

Although the road to get there is "the long and winding road" it is certainly worth the effort. The views from the top and on the way up are spectacular. If you are on the island of La Palma this visit is a must. When we set off from the coast it was cloudy but at the top it was a beautiful sunny day.

We did the root with mountain bikes, the views are fantastic and the landscape is amazing, if the weather is good you can even see Tenerife!

Worth a visit, rustic but tidy. Very relaxing location although be prepared there is no seating only stone surfaces. The water is clear and there are steps for those less inclined to enter via the rocks. There are toilets and cute changing rooms, a paddling pool on the upper area for young children. There is a restaurant on the road above, it is a quiet resort.

It is not an easy walk to get to this beach and I would not recommend it to anyone with limited mobility. However, the way to the beach is absolutely amazing The cliff path is out of this world !!!! The beach itself is not the best for swimming as the currents are very strong so don't go out of your depth.

The day we visited there were very few people there so a swim in the charco was a real pleasure. There was a lifeguard on duty and only a handful of tourists. This place is much nicer than the typical hotel pools. Unfortunately the nearby restaurant was closed so we had to go elsewhere for lunch.

Thoroughly enjoyed our volcano trip, interesting display and information in the visitors centre before a little hike along the volcano ridge itself. Definitely glad I had a jacket as it got quite windy up there and the walk can be a little slippery underfoot so trainers at least are a sensible choice. Views from the top are spectacular and worth the walk, not sure the Spanish are so worried about health and safety as I doubt the single rope along the pathway would hold you back if you took a tumble.
