You come off the ship and are immediately welcomed by locals (in regional dress) handing out free food samples. On our day in October is was maple syrup on a stick - they keep then in ice until they give it to you. Then you are at the welcome and information building. Small shops and information and maps of the area. Right outside are ticket booths for two locally operated bus routes. One goes into Saguenay (Cultural - churches and museums) and another that goes to the air defence area and the Fjord Museum. Cost was $20 US or 25$ Canadian. You get commentary on the way. Best deal I have seen. We did the Cultural bus with a nice senic ride into Saguenay - Donna was our "hostess" on the way back and was wonderful. The bus makes stops at a cathedral (worth the visit); the local tourist office (we skipped); the Little White House; La Pulperie( a museum on history of area and of the pulp mill that was housed in the building from late 1890's to early 1920's (most others on the bus skipped it but we spent almost two hours exploring; the public market; and back to the ship. A truly memorable experience at this port!
