Museo Nazionale d'Abruzzo - MUNDA

This museum is a treasure, with a large collection of art from the Middle Ages to modern times, in it's beautifully-displayed rooms. This structure is not the permanent housing for these hundreds of paintings, sculptures and jewelry, all of which were brought from the 16th-century Castle of L’Aquila that was heavily damaged in the 2009 earthquake. Few visitors were in this large, modern museum when we arrived. After my wife and I had spent 2 hours enjoying every piece we saw, a guide (Carmine Santorelli) came to us after seeing how interested we were and he led us on a guided tour. He explained the history and culture of the region and how the artwork differed from other locations and times; the breast-feeding Virgin Mary's; the hidden figures in many religious paintings that symbolized the distrust the artists (an others) felt for powerful religious figures of the times. His 40+ years of museum experience were truly evident in his passionate explanations of what we saw.

Fattoria Valle Magica

Fattoria Valle Magica is a unique day out for anyone wanting to escape the stress of the city to gain freedom, space and fresh air. We rear rare breed donkeys, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens (and more), while focusing on ethical, ecological and sustainable farming methods. As a visitor, you can take our informative tour of the farm, meet and learn about each breed we keep and the products we make. If you want to enjoy a fuller experience, you can combine the tour with lunch, comprising of a tagliere of our salumi, sotto oli plus cheese and more. This is followed by a mixed grill of farm reared meats for you to cook on your allocated BBQ (charcoal & tools provided). Your lunch including 1/4 liter of local wine can be enjoyed at your private, open-air but shaded table. Visit our website to book your visit or one of our experiences including donkey trekking, aperitivo and more. In addition we have farm produced products you can buy at the farm to take home with you.

Actually visited in Aug 2018. Fascinating farm, preserving old breeds, using natural pest-control techniques. I’m no farmer, but it all looked good to me. And the food was excellent. A good day out.

Piazza del Duomo

Reviewed By giordanob301

This city suffered a very strong earthquake in 2009. They are still under construction (after more than 10 years) so you can still see the work sites all around the square and along the streets near it. The space is large, the fountain is well cared for and often activities are carried out (concerts, market...), but looking around you will feel a strange feeling, as if there was something wrong. Many buildings have been rebuilt with a "fake" Roman style while many other structures are still under restoration. The strength of the inhabitants shines through from the fully operational activities, in the same way shines through the weakness of those who could do more. The place is absolutely to visit.
