Vladimir Dimitrov is considered in Bulgaria as the best and more popular painter, for this reason he has the title of maistora - the master. His drawings are spread all around the world and as he was born and lived in Kiustendil, there is a very nice museum there, with a lot of his paintings. Most of them are of local people and views but he has painted a lot of beautiful young girls and he is very appreciated in the town itself but also out of Bulgaria,
Recently I saw a photo of an oild lady near one of the nicest young girls - as she is nowadays against when she was painted. In February 2012 we had in Jaffa a day where we presented films about the town of Kyustendil and the Maistora with a small exhibition of his paintings (copies of course) and the paintings remained in Jaffa, I have at home some of these which are a real delight.

iDimitar Peshev's name is forever linked with the odissea of saving the bulgarian jews during WW2. He was then deputee chairman of the bulgarian parlaiment and managed to arrange that nobody touched the jews of Bulgaria and they were saved from the destiny of the other European Jews. He was dismissed from the Parliament following his deed and was condemned aso by the communists ruling Bulgaria after that. Grateful jews sent him some money so that he survived but miserably.
He was honored by Israel as righteous of the justs and grateful Bugarian Jews gathered the means to built this museum in Kustebndil, where was his home.
In the yard of the museum, there is a remembrance plaque in memory of Itshak Rabin.

This small museum is located close to the train station. Though it might be small it is very professional and is quite informative. The descriptions are in English as well as Bulgarian. The docent when I visited didn’t speak English, but was very fluent in Spanish. Most of the items are small, and go from prehistoric to the present time. The coin collection was really interesting and well presented. There are larger items outside on the grounds such as sarcophagi and sculptures.

The Romans liked a good bath, and made any place with a good hot spring an administrative center. Kyustendil has some good hot Springs and the Romans built quite the bathing complex. They are in the middle of town and not fenced off, you can get a really good view of them. They are on both sides of a road in a busy little neighborhood, right next to the current town baths where you can see the steam coming from them on a chilly summer morning. Worth looking for when walking around this interesting little town. There is some sort of building adjacent to the therms that might be open to the public but I didn't investigate as it was very early in the morning when I walked by.
