Kok-Kiya Valley

Reviewed By NomadyTravel - Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

You will reach Kok-Kiya on your way to lake Kel Suu. And this valley is a great spot for night before hiking or horse-riding to the lake. Valley offers amazing atmosphere of rocky ridges, mountain rivers, yurt camps and herds of yaks. You may spend night in local yurt camps or more-adventurous of you may camp with own equipment. If you have some hours for hiking around, definitely hike to hills over camps to enjoy the panorama of the snowy peaks over Kel Suu (Be careful when hiking off the track!). Kok-Kiya is reachable by off-road car or motorcycle, but it's recommended to be eco-friendly and hike from camps to Kel Suu lake.

Chon-Kurchak Gorge

Chon-Kurchak is an easy day trip from Bishkek. The drive up is scenic and your reward is the restaurant at the Supara resort at the top. We had a delicious meal of local specialties in a private room. Also, there is a yurt nearby in the woods with a lovely woman in ethnic dress who can teach you about yurts and life in one. She doesn't speak English, but through the Russian speaking friend who took us there we learned a lot.

Issyk-Ata Gorge

Reviewed By marinakapustina - Moscow, Russia

Ysyk-Ata is an outstanding place eastward Bishkek, near Kant town, which I visited in October 2018. I was there with a small company of 4 persons. We got there by noon. The commutte from Bishkek took about 1.5 hour. The first thing to see was the entering arc which should be driven around as it was on repair. From the first look the place is no way significant because we reached a small settlement with spa-hotel, closed food trucks and tourist zone. However, till the ravine left lots of steps (literally). The major thing should be done is to eat well because a long trip is waiting. We bought some food beforehand that was a huge advantage as all cafes nearby were closed. Next good point is to put on comfortable outfit, sneakers and sunglasses because the route is long and it is needed to go through mountainous terrain. Moreover, it is essential to take water and cameras. The day I visited this place the weather was nice: the Sun was shining and melting snow. It was neither cold or hot. The overall walk took about 3 hours full of picturesque views, fresh air and contacts with cattle. Furthermore, we went to rest a little bit in a hot spring in the usrrounding hotel. I would like to recommend this place to those who are interested in backpacking or resting in the nature as it is an amazing exerience.

Kara-Keche Pass

Reviewed By guide_kyrgyzstan - Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

It's a great pass if you drive from Kyzyl-Oi village to Song Kul lake though Kara-Keche pass. Certainly, it will be long way to Song-Kul (around 4-4.5h) , but it is worthy since you will see a lot of beautiful spots!!!!
