Our organisation is an animal rescue charity. We receive no government help and are totally dependent on donations from local and international supporters. Currently we take care of over 350 homeless dogs and cats with the support of volunteers and staff. In 2017 we celebrated our 20th Anniversary and are proud of what we have achieved in that time. We will continue to care for the vulnerable stray animals in the Girne area. We welcome visits from members of the public who are encouraged to interact with the cats and dogs , walk dogs in our beautiful setting, groom the cats, kittens, puppies and dogs. Visitors are welcome any day from 9 am to 1pm - no need to book. Just turn up with sun hats, sun cream, water and lots of love - our residents will be delighted to see them.
This rescue shelter is truly a place of wonder. The staff and volunteers work tirelessly with all their love to make sure every dog and cat gets the individual attention and care they need until they hopefully find their forever home. Pens are cleaned every single day and it warms the heart to see so many wonderful wagging tails eager to greet you when you visit this wonderful haven for animals in need. It is clear that everyone who works there absolutely loves the animals and their job, and they couldn't be doing more to encourage and educate the local community about pet care and adoption. We fell in love with a pointer-retriever mix last Christmas when we were in Cyprus visiting my parents. His name at the time was Drew, and he was the biggest, sweetest, most joyful bundle my fiancee and I could have ever hoped for. We were informed that his previous adoption had fallen through, and I can only believe that it was because he was meant to be with us instead because on Christmas Eve, we decided we needed him no matter what and promptly signed the adoption papers to seal the deal. Drew was Canada bound! He is now a part of our small family and we cannot imagine life without him. We come home every day from work eager to see him, and he greets us like we are the rockstars of his world. His love knows no limits, and it is all thanks to Elaine, the director of KAR, and her amazing team that has brought our baby home to us. We are so blessed and grateful and we hope everyone who visits considers adoption or volunteering because the rewards you get are priceless when you look into your future fur baby's eyes and know you have also made a difference.

For only a few lira, one can enter the castle, scale it's settlements and see the remains of a shop from bygone days.Set in its own chilled museum, this is must for those who love history.

The weather was cool when we visited in middle of March and it was not too crowded. The climb up was not complicated - simply follow the signage and stone steps all the way up. The peak iof the castle is at over 700 metres. It offers a commanding views of Kyrenia/Girne area. We saw some visitors from group tours scrambled up the castle due to the limited time given for them to explore the sprawling castle grounds. We hired a taxi service from North Cyprus Brothers Taxi Services and could spend a good amount of time at the castle. We were picked up at our hotel in South Nicosia, went through the customs at the borders smoothly and had 6-7 hours to explore St Hilarion Castle, Kyrenia Harbour, the old harbour & Bellapais Abbey at a leisurely pace. Kyrenia, and especially St Hillarion Castle, is worth a day's visit as the views here are picturesque, and offered a different perspective of Cyprus.

We visited as part of a tour of Northern Cyprus and loved the village and the monastery. The views are beautiful and the monastery and its surroundings are tranquil and interesting - definitely worth a visit and you can see why Laurence Durrell chose to write here!

Superb place to visit whilst in the area. There is quite a lot to see to do it justice so it is advised to allow at least a couple of hours. Give some thought to footwear as there are a lot of uneven, stony surfaces. It is not really signposted very well on the outside but there is a cafe within the castle where you can rest & buy refreshment (you might need it on a hot day). Unusually for a Cypriot tourist attraction there are quite a few useful bulletin boards, as you walk around, explaining the history of the castle. Fascinating.
